A Plot

Jimmy is back at Degrassi! All of this friends are happy...except for Spinner. Spinner is still wracked with guilt over the shooting, and didn't even visit Jimmy in the hospital. Jimmy is peeved, but he eventually forgives Spinner and Spinner pretty much spends his whole day doing things for Jimmy. He even organizes a celebration of Jimmy's basketball accomplishments and dubs the MVP trophy the Jimmy Brooks trophy. Afterwards, Jimmy is lamenting over the loss of his mobility and athletic dreams. He blames himself for the shooting and for pushing over the edge — and at his lowest point, sometimes wishes Rick killed him. Spinner tearfully confesses that he and Jay (but not Alex) were the ones who set Jimmy up as being part of the prank. Jimmy angrily rolls away.

The next day, word gets out and Spinner is ostracized. Marco and Craig tell him not to show up for the party and Manny unceremoniously dumps him. At The Dot, Spinner is moping and Jay shows up, telling him he's dumb for spilling the secret. They almost fight but Jay calms him does and tells him he needs a friend. They both drink liquor and get drunk in the woods and Spinner gets the idea to go to the party. He arrives staggering drunk and pleads to Jimmy to forgive him. The partygoers shun him, except for Marco who notices when Spinner grabs his car keys (that he apparently left at Joey's house) when leaving. Marco, Craig, Hazel, and Paige plead for Spinner not to drive but Spinner takes off...and is stopped by Jimmy when he rolls out in front of his car. Jimmy basically rejects all of Spinner's apologies and tells him to drive off a bridge — because he's dead to him already. Devasted, Spinner hands off his keys to Craig.

The next day, Spinner confesses to Principal Hatzilakos that he and Jay were behind the prank at the quiz show. Spinner is upset and in tears, and Ms. Hatzilakos tells him to get his things. Spinner asks when can he come back, but Ms. Hatzilakos tells him he isn't coming back - due to the zero tolerance stance against bullying, he is being expelled. Sometimes the truth doesn't set you free. invoked

Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Spinner ultimately, albeit totally justified given what he and Jay did.
  • Broken Pedestal: Even though they’ve had their ups and downs, Jimmy always gave Spinner the benefit of the doubt. This trust is finally broken once Spinner confesses his and Jays involvement in the school shooting.
  • Downer Ending: Spinner's attempts to make amends go disastrously wrong, and in the final scene, he is expelled from school for bullying after coming clean.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After the truth comes out of his role in the shooting, Spinner gets drunk with Jay.
  • Drunk Driver: Attempted by a distraught Spinner, but eventually the gang managed to stop him and take his car keys away.
  • Get Out!: Spinner crashes Jimmy's party begging for his forgiveness, only for his former friends to tell him to get lost.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Implied with Danny, as he neither wants to share J.T. with Liberty in spite of the two dating nor does he think J.T. is "good enough" to date his sister.
  • Hospital Visit Hesitation: After Jimmy returns to school, it's discovered that Spinner never once visited him in the hospital, citing a weak excuse of being busy. While he tries to make amends with him, he eventually confesses why he never visited; he and Jay lied to Rick about a paint and feathers prank they pulled on him, saying it was Jimmy who did it and which caused him to get shot and subsequently paralyzed. The confession makes Jimmy and the rest of the school to turn on them and the both of them eventually getting expelled.
  • Karma Houdini: Infamously, Alex is never mentioned by either Spinner or Jay as being in on the prank and even went on to pursue a relationship with Paige.
  • Must Make Amends: Spinner attempts to be a friend to Jimmy after ignoring him out of guilt, but once he admits his role in the shooting, he and the rest of the school turn their backs on him, making his attempts go for naught.
  • Never My Fault: Combined with The Unapologetic, Jay is more angry at Spinner for telling Jimmy about the lie that lead to Rick shooting him over anything else, and upon learning that he was barred from going to Jimmy's welcome home party, feels that the friends should "go to Hell".
  • Two-Person Pool Party: A rare PG-rated version between Liberty and J.T. which soon gets busted up by her father.
  • Uninvited to the Party: After admitting his role in the shooting, Jimmy turns his back on Spinner and Craig and Marco tell him to stay away from Jimmy's homecoming party.
  • Wimp Fight: Played with regarding Danny and J.T.'s fight: while the former bit the latter and the latter pushed the former down and caused a scrape to the back of his head, it's clear neither boy is a dominant fighter, with a lot of tussling between them instead of actual fighting.
