The stare of certain doom.

"Mereana Mordegard Glesgorv" is a Creepypasta story created by an unknown author. The story is centered around a mysterious YouTube video of a man sitting in a dark room with a red filter and staring at the camera before abruptly smiling in a close-up. The video and story began circulating in April 2008.

The story itself is about the people who discovered the video, in and out of YouTube’s headquarters. They either went completely insane or maimed themselves.

It can be read here.

Tropes in this story:

  • Artistic License – Biology: You would die of blood loss after ripping out your eyes before you could try to navigate an object. These people managed to mail their eyes to YouTube's headquarters despite these literal impossibilities.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: The title of the video, which sounds vaguely foreign but is mostly gibberish.
  • Brown Note: Watching the full video causes people to maim and kill themselves.
  • Evil Laugh: In the extended version, the man starts laughing while smiling at the camera.
  • Eye Scream: The people who watched the video gouged their eyes out and mailed them to YouTube's headquarters.
  • Jumpscare:
    • Downplayed in the original one, but the last shot of the man smiling at the camera will probably catch you off guard if you've never seen it before.
    • Played straight in the longer version of the video. There are loud bells that abruptly ring somewhere in the beginning.
  • No Ending: In-Universe. We are left with no story on the video. Such as why it was created, who the man is, or where it came from. Plus the victims of the video either died, committed suicide or went mentally insane.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: The fact that the video has no audio, and the fact that the man eventually smiled at the end.
  • Red Filter of Doom: The video is monochrome with a deep red filter to symbolize how the viewer will react to it later.
  • Slasher Smile: The final frame of the video is of the man smiling with a widow's peak. To make matters worse, the background looks more distorted.
