NOTICE: This is a Recap page, so all spoilers will be left unmarked, per wiki policy. Read ahead only with caution! You Have Been Warned.

Wiz: With the dragon slain and the princess rescued, the hero revels in gold, glory, and cake.
Boomstick: But they couldn't have done it without a little help.
Wiz: The sidekick. The people's champion would be lost without his Player Two. Such as Luigi, Mario's younger brother.
Boomstick: And Tails the fox, Sonic's deformed, flying stalker.

It's episode seven of season two, and the spotlight falls on the sidekicks. We all know that Sonic defeated Mario back in the first season, but the grudge still remains to be settled between their respective companions. Since it's been established previously that Mario and Sonic's power-ups cancel each other out in terms of effectiveness toward each other, the only power-ups featured in this battle will be those unique to Luigi and Tails. Will the younger Mario Bro avenge his fallen older brother, or will the two-tailed fox finish what his blue hero started? Nothing answers a question of that sort like a death battle.

Luigi: After clobbering Koopas, bashing Bowser, and saving Peach, Mario gets all the credit, but Luigi is nevertheless a loyal ally of Mario who doesn't seem to mind that fact. Though he is subordinate to Mario, he is technically better, being faster, more athletic, and can jump higher and use his Scuttle Jump to slow down his falls, enabling him to jump farther as well. His melee moveset is quite potent, with the Luigi Cyclone (spinning around), the Green Missile (in which he flies at his target), and the Super Jump Punch, which sends his enemies flying. He has learned the Thunder Hand technique, enabling him to shoot lightning at his foes.

In addition to these base abilities, Luigi has powers ups including a giant hammer and the Vanish Power Flower, which makes him invisible and intangible. Luigi can also create the Negative Zone, a logic and physics breaking area whose effects are random, but Luigi's strongest asset is the Poltergust 5000, a vacuum cleaner which can somehow kill ghosts.

However, Luigi is not without flaws. He is cowardly and clumsy, but those flaws rarely prevent him from doing awesome things like defeating Dimentio and King Boo, and rescuing Mario on 3 separate occasions.

Luigi: (equipping the Poltergust 5000) I do it! (hums and dances, then bumps against a car, knocking down a shelf full of dust to his own surprise)

Tails: Born on the same day Dr. Eggman decided to begin his takeover of the world, Miles Prower has the unusual deformity of having two tails, which was of the least bit of concern when his parents were murdered. 8 years later, he came across a broken down biplane and fixed it all by himself. Turns out it belonged to Sonic, who came up with the idea that Tails could fly by using his tails like helicopter blades. These tails are also used to increase his running speed, are strong enough to break metal, and are central to many of his fighting moves.

Ever since he has decided to help Sonic on his quest, the two have grown closer and closer, and engage in a teacher-student relationship (in fact, it was Tails who invented the Spin Dash technique, not Sonic). Despite being a sidekick, Tails is smarter than Sonic and has learned how to swim. He has built many vehicles and has an arsenal of gadgets on hand, such as the Projectile Ring, which can carry and latch onto objects like a grappling hook, and a seemingly limitless supply and variety of bombs. He also has the Magic Hand, a long rang weapon in the manner of a spring mounted boxing glove, and the Energy Ball arm cannon. He has built all of these gadgets himself.

Tails fights with strategy and tactics, and utilizes a small selection of unmanned drones to help him. They include the Medi Bot which heals him and the Shield Bot which protects him. However, he is not without weaknesses. He fears thunder, is inexperienced (about 11 years old), gets dizzy easily, can't fly forever, relies too much on Sonic, and lacks hand-to-hand combat skills.

Nevertheless he has accomplished many great feats. He can almost run 100 MPH without the aid of his tails and has stopped a nuke.

Sonic: (to Tails, who is repairing the Tornado) We good to go or what, Tails?
Tails: I've built a TV out of paperclips, and reprogrammed a supercomputer using dishwashing detergent and a toothpick...
Sonic: I know...
Tails: So look, fixing a propeller on a biplane? That's about as difficult as taking a nap.
(the Tornado starts)
Sonic: 'Kay, I didn't need your whole life story. A simple "good to go would've been cool.
Tails: Alright. GOOD TO GO!
Sonic: COOL!

The combatants are set, and there is no pre-battle ad this time, so it's already time for a death battle!

Death Battle's iron doors open on a vast landscape dotted regularly by green pipes, with hills from both Mario's and Sonic's franchises decorating the horizon. Miles "Tails" Prower, long-time sidekick to Sonic the Hedgehog, flies down for a landing on one of the pipes and begins looking around, only to be knocked away when Luigi of the Mario Bros. pops out of the pipe without warning. The Bro in green jumps out of the pipe and turns to face Tails, both of them prepped for battle.

FIGHT!

Tails fires a shot from his Energy Ball arm cannon, but Luigi charges himself up with electricity and powers through it as he flies toward Tails. As he nears Tails, he is hit by one of Tails' tails, knocking him to the ground. Tails gets into a ball and tries to charge Luigi, but a blow sends him into the air. Luigi jumps to presumably follow up with another move, and he and Tails fly around each other for a few seconds before Luigi is knocked into the ground again. Luigi tries to jump and hit Tails with a hammer, but is knocked toward the ground...again.

Tails charges Luigi for a second time and is upper-cutted high into the air, but he recovers before flying down and grabbing Luigi. He hauls the plumber into the air, but Luigi eats a Vanish Power Flower and becomes invisible. He then takes out a hammer and hits Tails, who wields his Energy Ball arm cannon and Magic Hand. They trade blows as they fall. Luigi lands safely, but Tails stays in the air and spams bombs, freaking out Luigi until he takes out his Poltergust 5000 and gathers them into a big cluster which is then shot at Tails. Unfortunately for Luigi, he mistimed the shot and instead of exploding near Tails, they fall back down on him. The explosion sends Luigi into the air, but he dives into a pipe, coming out in an aura of electricity. He flies toward Tails and gets in a handful of blows, the last of which knock Tails far away.

Tails heals himself with the Medi Bot, but Luigi rushes over to him, using the Poltergust 5000 to suck it within range of his hammer. He tries to suck up Tails, but Tails jams the Poltergust 5000 with a Flashbang grenade, disorienting Luigi. Tails installs a time bomb in Luigi's Poltergust while he's stunned and quickly deploys a Shield Bot when Luigi notices that Tails is behind him. Luigi hammers the drone to disable the shield around Tails and activates the Negative Zone. Tails is affected by the tripping and slow down effects and starts trying to escape, but Luigi uses his Poltergust to keep Tails in the zone. Finally noticing the bomb, Luigi throws it at Tails and tries to escape, but both fighters are still caught in the blast, sending Tails flying and Luigi skidding along the ground, finally stopping in front of a pipe. Luigi gets up and sees Tails in front of him. He readies his hammer, but the Magic Hand punches straight through the green guy and the pipe.

K.O.!

His Medi Bot newly repaired, Tails casually heals away the injuries from the battle, ignoring Luigi's corpse still spouting blood and still pinned to the pipe. Wiz and Boomstick note that while Luigi has more experience, Tails has generally superior abilities and weapons. He is also smarter with an IQ of 300, suggesting a level of tactical and strategic thinking that Luigi can't match, and his incredible speed and ability to fly gave him complete control of the battlefield. They also note that Tails is stronger, able to move 10 tons while Luigi can barely lift a large (about the size of a small car) radish. His gadgets also do a good job of making up for his weaknesses.

Boomstick: Looks like Luigi was outfoxed.
Wiz: The winner is Miles Tails Prower.
