Recap / Darkwing Duck S 2 E 5 Slaves To Fashion

Go To

With an school event upcoming, Binkie Muddlefoot decides that Gosalyn should learn to act more like a proper lady. At the same time, Tuskernini develops a gas that makes a person take on the role of whatever outfit they were.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Becoming the Costume: A variation. Rather than physically changing those sprayed, Tuskernini's hypno gas makes them believe they are what they're dressed as.
  • Continuity Nod: Herb mentions that he saved Darkwing Duck once (which could be a reference to "You Sweat Your Life" or "The Merchant Of Menace").
  • For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: When asked to attend a Masquerade Ball, Drake decides to dress up as Darkwing Duck while Launchpad goes as an "air ace." This prevents the hypno gas from affecting him initially, as he's dressed as someone he already is. Amusingly, the neighbors criticize Drake's outfit as looking nothing like the real Darkwing but gush about Launchpad's, even though Launchpad didn't so much as change his clothes.
Darkwing: But that's what he... h-he isn't even... oh, never mind.
  • Informed Attribute: Drake mentions that Binkie always bugs him about how Gosalyn should be more feminine. However, this is the first and only time we see her doing that.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Darkwing realizes that something is wrong with the party after he sees Launchpad acting like an actual serious pilot.
  • Unwillingly Girly Tomboy: The plot of the episode; Binkie Muddlefoot convinces Drake that Gosalyn should be more ladylike and tries to give her lessons on how to be more feminine. At the end, Drake realizes that she's perfect as she is.
  • Your Costume Needs Work: The title character was told he was much too short and his costume could never be confused for the "real Darkwing Duck" when attending a costume party with the Muddlefoots. It's always been established that they aren't too bright.
