Bushroot escaping from prison and Honker sending a strange message to Gosalyn lead Darkwing to discover a plot to replace Earth's life forms with duplicates grown from alien plants.
This episode includes examples of the following tropes:
- Always Identical Twins: It is revealed that Binkie has a twin sister named Trudy who, aside from an opposite color scheme and an eye patch, is completely identical to her.
- The Cavalry: The alien cows show up en mass at the end of the episode to deal with the plants.
- Disney Acid Sequence: Darkwing has a vision that definitely qualifies.
- Enemy Mine: Bushroot helps Darkwing fight against an invasion of evil cabbages from outer space. Bushroot justifies joining forces with Darkwing as follows:Bushroot: Hey, I may be a mutant plant-duck, sure, but I'm an Earth mutant plant-duck!
- Even Evil Has Standards: Bushroot admits that while he is a mutant plant-duck, he is an Earth mutant plant-duck, and so doesn't want the aliens to succeed with their Assimilation Plot.
- Foreshadowing: Honker reacts with a stunned look when Launchpad gets directions to Twin Beaks from a log as well as a recommendation for Trudi's Diner, specifically for her pie and coffee. Honker already knows these directions are accurate since, as revealed shortly after they arrive, Trudi is his aunt.
- Karmic Death: The alien cabbages die by being collected to be eaten by the alien cows.
- Shout-Out:
- Both the title and several plot points are references to Twin Peaks.
- The fact people are being replaced via body doubles grown from cabbages bring Invasion of the Body Snatchers to mind.
- The alien cows reference the cows in The Far Side. They even come from "Planet Larson on the far side of the galaxy."
- Darkwing references Star Wars when he sarcastically refers to Launchpad as "Duck Skywalker", and that he's using the "Power of the Forest" (he intentionally pronounces "forest" in a way that make it sound closer to "force").
