Recap / Darkwing Duck S 1 E 41 Dances With Bigfoot

Go To

Eager to become a superheroine of her own, Gosalyn attempts to spy on Darkwing, but is grounded. Waking up the next morning to find that her father's been abducted by a Bigfoot tribe, she and Honker must head to the Pacific Northwest to prevent him from being sacrificed to a volcano.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: Parodied with the tribal language, which consists of "Hummina-hummina-hummina <insert random word>."
  • Chekhov's Gun: Both the kids' initial failed attempts to reach the Pacific Northwest come back to play later.
    • The zephyr, which kept going after they were thrown out of it, flies over the volcano as the protagonists are about to be thrown in. While they are unable to board it, Darkwing puncturing the balloon with his Grappling Gun manages to slow their fall.
    • Gosalyn and Honker's first attempt was setting the Thunderquack on auto-pilot to reach the Pacific Northwest, but they accidentally eject themselves when it takes off. Later on when they are fleeing the Bigfoots, Honker realizes they are right about where the auto-pilot coordinates would've landed the Thunderquack, and they are able to use it as a getaway vehicle.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Not only do Darkwing, Gosalyn and Honker get dangerously close to lava, but Darkwing dances across a lava flow with his bare feet. Darkwing is later seen with bandages on his feet, but still.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, the Bigfoot tribe has decided on a new sacrifice: Launchpad.
  • Human Mail: Gosalyn and Honker ultimately get to the Pacific Northwest by mailing themselves to a random ranger station.
  • Quicksand Sucks: While wandering through the woods, Gosalyn and Honker end up in a quicksand pit. Fortunately, they are able to get out when Gosalyn inadvertently uses Darkwing's grappling hook to pull a tree down.
  • Series Continuity Error: Darkwing is shown flying the Thunderquack home at the end of the episode, despite the fact that several episodes have shown he doesn't know how to fly a plane. Given it came to the Pacific Northwest by auto-pilot in the first place, however, it's likely he used auto-pilot to get them back.
  • Written-In Absence: According to Gosalyn, Launchpad is on vacation for this episode.
