Recap / Darkwing Duck S 1 E 29 Adopt A Con

Go To

Drake Mallard accidentally gets involved in St. Canard's Adopt-A-Con programme, taking in a convicted felon to help them rehabilitate. To his horror, the convict is none other than Tuskernini, whom he put away that very same day! Drake is convinced that Tuskerninni hasn't actually reformed, especially when a new wave of crime sweeps the city - but whenever he tries to prove it, the villain has already covered his tracks. Can Drake prove that Tuskernini is behind it all?

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Bruce Wayne Held Hostage: Happens to Darkwing himself as Tuskernini has Drake Mallard, Gosalyn, and Launchpad held hostage. He managed to pull it off by moving very quickly from the bank he was held hostage into where he had a spare costume. Then Tuskerninni and the law started arguing over whether hostage Drake had to be let go before hero Darkwing surrendered or vice versa.
  • Falsely Reformed Villain: Tuskernini pretends to have changed his ways while still committing crimes, only this time disguised as other villains.
  • Implausible Deniability: Tuskernini claiming his innocence of a bank robbery in court. Darkwing presents security footage, a signed confession, and dozens of eye witnesses. Tuskernini claims this is flimsy evidence, then upon the whispered advice of his penguin lawyers, he accuses Darkwing of framing him.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: During Darkwing and Tuskernini's argument at court:
Darkwing: I caught that hateful, underhanded, ham, Tuskernini, robbing a bank!
Tuskernini: I object, your honour. I am not a ham.
Judge: Darkwing Duck, do you have any evidence?
Darkwing: These reviews of his performance in Son of MacBeth.
Judge: I mean the bank robbery!
  • Jail Bake: Darkwing is thrown in Jail and Gosalyn comes by with a cake... that has a chainsaw in it. It then keeps going, getting more random each time.
  • Living with the Villain: Drake is forced to house Tuskerni when he's under the guise of being reformed.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Played with. Tuskernini is able to fool others when dressed as Megavolt and Bushroot, despite being much more overweight than them. Darkwing Duck isn't fooled by the Megavolt disguise (and it's unclear if the tied-up guard is). Darkwing, Launchpad, and Gosalyn all know in advance that he's going to be disguised as Bushroot. However, those unaware don't know that he's really Tuskernini. The judge only finds out after he sees the flower pot used as hair fall off.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial:
Darkwing: Hold the phone. You're not Megavolt; you're Tuskerninni, in a really bad Megavolt disguise.
Tuskerninni: I am not Tuskerninni, and this is an excellent disguise!
    • The Mallard family is not involved in a criminal conspiracy (which is actually a subversion, seeing as they really weren't, but were trying to get Tuskernini to believe they were).
