Recap / Darkwing Duck S 1 E 10 Paraducks

Go To

Darkwing and Gosalyn accidentally take S.H.U.S.H's new time machine into Darkwing's childhood years...where they find themselves up against an Elvis-like baddie.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bad Future: Or rather a Bad Alternate Timeline, in which the King becomes the ruler of St. Canard unless he's stopped in the past.
  • The Cameo: The Tyrannosaurus that attempted to eat Darkwing and Gosalyn in the timestream is actually the one from the DuckTales (1987) episode "Dinosaur Ducks".
  • Chekhov's Gun: Drakie's bubblegum.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: Darkwing's song at the end has some very surreal images.
  • Fake-Hair Drama: The King's outrageous hairstyle turns out to be toupe, and he's bald as an egg underneath it.
  • Hand Wave: At the end, Gosalyn asks why Darkwing wouldn't remember the events of the episode since they involve his younger self. It's implied that the answer is that Darkwing's memory is just that bad.
  • Help Yourself in the Future: Darkwing ends up teaming up with his younger self to take down the King and his crew.
  • "I Am" Song: Once he gets his act together, Darkwing trounces the King while singing about his prowess as a crime fighter.
I put an end to all their schemes and scams
'Cause I'm Darkwing Duck, that's who I am!
  • I Call Her "Vera": The King's guitar-slash-energy-weapon is named Cecile.
  • I Hate Past Me: Averted. Apart from being slightly embarrassed that he used to be a wimp (and only when Gosalyn brings it up), Darkwing doesn't show any real annoyance to his past wimpy, comic-obsessed self, and even goes out of his way to offer encouragement and support.
  • Never My Fault: Gosalyn blames Darkwing for allowing the King to take over St. Canard in the present, when she was the one to who convinced him not to interfere in the past.
  • Pun-Based Title: The episode's title is a pun on the word "paradox".
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: When Darkwing tells Gosalyn tells her to wait in the car, she wonders why he thinks she'll get into trouble. Darkwing comes back and reminds her of the time involving the floor wax, peanut butter, and his VCR.
    Gosalyn: That was an accident!
  • Self-Serving Memory: Darkwing apparently has no recollection whatsoever of being a whimpy coward as a kid.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: A rare instant where it mixes with Stable Time Loop and You Already Changed the Past.
  • The Un-Reveal: Darkwing spends the episode having no memory that he was once part of the King's gang, nor that his future self and daughter helped him defeat them. Lampshaded by Gosalyn at the end, only for Darkwing to forget where he parked the time machine (which was right in front of him), revealing that Drakie/Darkwing just has a bad memory in general.
  • Villain Song: The King makes his entrance singing about what a great criminal he is.
  • Wrong Time-Travel Savvy: Upon arriving in the past, Gosalyn advises Darkwing to not stop the King, as affecting events in the past would change the future. Turns out, Darkwing was supposed to stop the King, and as a result, the King became the ruler of St. Canard in the present.
