Martha and Jonas travel to 2052 and get a glimpse of a grim future. In 1954, two residents of Winden go missing, and Hannah receives surprising news.


Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Both Agnes and the Unknown, due to conceiving Tronte only because they had to, and later ditching him. Tronte disowns both of them eventually.
  • Alone with the Psycho: The Unknown informs Doris about Egon's infidelity, as Doris leaves the church and the Unknown not going through the murder.
  • Awful Truth: Adam informs Martha that her and Jonas's child is the origin of the both worlds, and the Apocalypse.
  • Blackmail: The Unknown blackmail the Mayor to permit the building of the Power Plant.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Egon loses both his wife and his lover in a single day.
  • Corrupt Politician: Winden's Mayor has lobbied with the Coal industry to block the building of the Nuclear Power Plant.
  • The Dragon: Noah in Eva's world is this to adult Martha.
  • Dramatic Irony: Greta looking for Noah is this, as Noah has been already killed by Agnes.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Losing Hannah and Doris in one day made Egon into the alcoholic we see in 1986.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Jonas/Adam has all the reasons to believe that his son is the true Origin of both worlds, but come the Season Finale...
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Hannah changes her mind about aborting Egon's child after talking with Helene Albers.
  • Given Name Reveal:
    • It turns out Katharina's name is due to Helene meeting Hannah, who was using Katharina's name.
    • Noah's real name is revealed to be Hanno Tauber.
  • Internal Reveal: Martha finds out about the Apocalypse and the Nielsen family's deaths.
    • Doris finds about Egon's affair with Hannah, and leaves him.
  • Meaningful Name: Both Adam and Eva are named such, as they are the ancestors to most of the four main families.
  • My Own Grampa: The entire Nielsen family is their own ancestor and descendant.
  • One-Night-Stand Pregnancy: Martha 2 and Jonas share a Big Damn Kiss in Martha's room and Next Thing They Knew they conceived a child in a one-night stand. Adam later calls this moment the "Origin".
  • Ouroboros: The Unknown gives Tronte an ouroboros ring, saying that it belonged to his mother Agnes. Tronte then later gives it to Jana.
  • Relative Error: Doris wonders if Agnes ran off with Noah, as both of them disappeared at around the same time. Unbeknownst to her, they are brother and sister.
  • The Reveal: The episode's beginning reveals that the Unknown is Tronte's father.
    • The end of the episode reveals both Jonas and Martha are the parents of the Unknown, and the latter is the reason the two worlds are linked.
    • The Unknown is the author of Claudia's journal.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Hannah leaves 1954 after deciding to keep Egon's child.
  • Stable Time Loop:
    • Jonas and Martha are the Unknown's parents, who is Tronte's father, who is the grandfather/great-grandfather of Martha and Jonas.
    • The Unknown makes the Mayor approve the building of the Power Plant, which will create the wormhole which both Jonas and Martha use to travel, and make their subsequent time machines based on it. They will eventually meet and become his parents, so that the Unknown could go and threaten the Mayor.
    • Katharina's name is revealed to be one, as Hannah (wanting to spite Katharina) went to 1954 and used her name. She met Katharina's mother as a young girl, and told her name, which she liked.
  • Tangled Family Tree: Jonas and Martha are both the ancestors and descendants of themselves.
  • Title Drop: Adam tells Martha that the moment when she conceived her yet unborn child is the origin of everything.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Jonas and Martha got together so that they could conceive the Unknown, who is the ancestor/descendant of the Nielsen family line in both worlds.
  • Wham Episode: Jonas and Martha's unborn son is the true Origin linking both worlds, as he's literally the Child of Two Worlds.
  • Wham Line: From the Unknown - "You have grown, Tronte."
