When the first person gets murdered, Makoto is the number one suspect! He must prove his innocence during the class trial or everyone but the killer will get executed. Can he find enough evidence to clear his name and identify the killer?
This episode provides examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion: The scene preceding Leon's execution is made much more gut-wrenching as Leon desperately tries to escape through the door while futilely pleading for his life.
- Adaptational Intelligence: A lot of the observations and points that were up to the player to point out in the original game are things that some of the other characters figure out on their own in the animation.
- Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear if Sayaka left Leon's name at the crime scene to help clear Makoto's name or to punish Leon. When Makoto wonders if she actually did it out of revenge against her murderer, Kyoko adds that she still wants to believe Sayaka did it as a last apology to him for what she had done.
- Ironic Death: Sayaka is murdered by the guy she was planning to murder.
- Running Gag: Makoto says exactly what Kyoko was thinking, and he brushes it off as “Good intuition”. This is a running gag he shared briefly with Sayaka before her death.
