Jareau: Queen Elizabeth I said, "The past cannot be cured."
Provides examples of:
- Abusive Parents: Chloe could care less about her son, non-lethally poisoning him and then kidnapping him just to hurt his father.
- The Ace: Declan is this in his school life, being an honor student who also wins science fairs and participates in sports.
- Anger Born of Worry: Ultimately the reason why the rest of the team is upset about Prentiss' reappearance. They were led to believe Prentiss was dead and they’re upset over putting on a fake funeral rather than be told she survived.
- Bait-and-Switch: When offered her job back, Prentiss asks if she can think about it, which Strauss says she can. Morgan and Reid give her worried looks. A couple of seconds pass.Emily: I'm in.
- The Bus Came Back:
- After her untimely fake death in season six, Prentiss returns.
- Strauss returns as well, being much more sympathetic and concerned about the BAU.
- Chained to a Bed: How Doyle kept Chloe from killing herself while pregnant with Declan.
- The Dog Bites Back: Chloe, the unsub, wants revenge on Ian Doyle for forcing her to carry his son to term after she tried to abort.
- Eviler than Thou: Doyle wasn't above killing the children of his enemies, but unlike Chloe he never harmed their son.
- Flashback Episode: The events of the episode is framed by the BAU testifying about them.
- Hauled Before A Senate Subcommittee: The whole team faces this throughout the episode, with the lead senator grilling them about their irresponsible and illegal moves while chasing Doyle and later, Donaghy.
- Internal Reveal: Hotch and JJ come clean to their colleagues about faking Prentiss's death.
- Pretty Little Headshots: Happens to Gerace courtesy of Chloe.
- Put on a Bus: In exchange for both JJ and Prentiss' return, Seaver was transferred to Andi Swann's unit against human trafficking from last episode.
- Only in It for the Money: Doyle is convinced that Chloe is this. It's subverted in that it's ultimately a big factor, but she wanted revenge against those that forced her to have the son the most.
- Revenge Before Reason: Morgan continued to pursue Doyle more
- Would Hurt a Child:
- Chloe non-fatally poisons several kids at a boarding school.
- It's implied that McDermott would've tortured Declan if the trade went right.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Chloe kills Gerace so she won't have to split the money with him.
- Prentiss: "I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."note
