Tropes

  • Call-Back: Garcia asks Luke to subject Tyler Green to a cognitive interview, a technique they used a lot in the original series.
  • Deconstructed Trope: The cognitive interview works like a dream, but there's a reason the brain hides traumatic memories from you.
  • The Family That Slays Together: The UnSubs of the week are brohers.
  • Freudian Excuse: The brothers who kill random people in random homes became this way because when they were children, a home invader murdered their mother while their father forced them to hide with him in the panic room.
  • It's All My Fault: Tyler's cognitive interview has him begging the FBI to lock him up and throw away the key.
  • Mirror Character: Rossi figures Sicarius is one to all of BAU, since he thinks like a profiler, but is a serial killer instead of catching them.
  • Pet the Dog: For a serial killer. Sicarius looks like he's sorry that he has to kill the dog he used as a murder weapon, and does so in a much more merciful way than he has killed any of his human victims.
  • Uncanny Valley Makeup: The UnSubs obscure their faces from the cameras with cubist-inspired make-up that doesn't pixelate well.
  • Vigilante Man: Tyler Green used his military training to infiltrate the serial killer network responsible for the disappearance of his sister Allison.
  • Wham Line: Though Will tries to lead up to it with an explanation as to why Howard visited earlier and that he has a platelet count over 400, his final line is this.
    It might be cancer.
