Monks, mountains, and murder.

The Bureau tracks down Om Padmasana to the Tiger's Nest Monastery in Paro, Bhutan, so they can investigate more about his true intentions, specially since they've learned he's studying to make his followers more dependent on him. There, Carmen and the player are ordered to climb up to the monastery, but get sidetracked when they find the body of old monk Lam Ugyen with his arm chopped off.

Tropes:

  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy:
    • Lam tricked Om Padmasana into drinking chhaang by telling him it was a sacred beverage that would allow him to walk through walls, which led to him walking into walls. Due to this, he lost some followers after they saw him completely drunk.
    • There's also Deki, who gets absolutely plastered with chhaang as a celebration for Lam's death, since that means she won't have to stay married to him anymore.
  • An Arm and a Leg: The victim was killed by having his arm chopped off with an ax, which made him bleed to death.
  • Cool Old Guy: Very Downplayed. Lam Ugyen was an unorthodox monk who liked to preach about how you must live your life to the fullest and rescued people in times of need, but he also was a Dirty Old Monk who groped Averly without her consent, tricked Om Padmasana into drinking, and forced his adoptive daughter to marry him.
  • Dirty Old Monk: Lam groped Averly while she was taking care of his arthritis and also did some dirty talk to Deki and forced her to marry him.
  • Call-Back: Om Padmasana and Averly Worthington reappear as suspects.
  • Cliffhanger: The case ends with the Bureau flying to Tibet to confront Om Padmasana about his ties with SOMBRA once and for all.
  • Fangirl: Averly's admiration for Om Padmasana has grown into full-fangirlism towards him, as she has decided to follow him around everywhere like a pupil.
  • Fake Charity: One Mother Milk, a supposed charity created by O.M. MediLab who in return is revealed to be a front for SOMBRA. What's more, it appears that Om Padmasana has been donating hefty amounts of money to said charity, giving him links to SOMBRA.
  • Forgiveness: During the Additional Investigation, Marina decides to give a shot at forgiving Jonah for attempting to assassinate her back in Russia, inviting him to discuss matters over some tea.
  • Happily Adopted: Deki was adopted by Lam when she was a little girl after her parents died, though this might be because he had other plans in mind...
  • Lampshade Hanging: When you find the body while climbing towards the monastery, Carmen remarks how she should've seen that coming.
  • Love at First Sight: Tashi fell in love with Deki as soon as he saw her, and he killed Lam so she wouldn't have to stay married to the monk.
  • Love Epiphany: Despite already being in love with his wife, Lars gets a much stronger one for his entire family after realizing what a fool he has been for following Om Padmasana's teachings, which leads to him renewing his vows with Angela in a Themed Wedding.
  • The Man Behind the Man: It's revealed that O.M. MediLab is actually a front for SOMBRA, who in return has created a Fake Charity called One Mother Milk to obtain money.
  • Not Afraid to Die: According to Deki, Lam wasn't afraid to die, always reminding her that thinking about death led to one living their life to the fullest.
  • Only One Name: Deki, Druk, and Tashi only have one name, which is a tradition in Bhutanese culture.
  • I Owe You My Life: Tashi tells you how Lam rescued him when he was lost in the mountains during a thunderstorm, and that's why he decided to become a monk. Didn't stop him from murdering Lam though.
  • Returning Big Bad: SOMBRA returns as the main villain of the region after their apparent defeat in Eurasia, as they're the ones behind O.M. MediLab and their questionable activities involving experimental drugs and fake charities to obtain money.
  • Shout-Out: Druk is named after the dragon in Bhutanese culture.
  • Themed Wedding: During the Additional Investigation, Lars and Angela decide to renew their wedding vows with a traditional Bhutanese ceremony, dressing with appropriate Bhutanese clothes for the deed.
  • Wife Husbandry: Lam forced Deki, his adopted daughter, to marry him, which is why Tashi decided to kill him.
