Take Bonnie and Clyde, make them Chinese and Jewish, and you've got these two.

Chief Marquez sends Amy and the player to a Jewish delicatessen down an avenue, where ex-convict David Breitman has been murdered by having his throat slashed.

Tropes:

  • Alliterative Name: The Deli Owner, Myriam Miller, and the Surgeon, Mark McKenzie.
  • Blackmail Backfire: David attempted to blackmail Yuan into giving him money or else he would expose her previous crimes as "The Dragon", which would've ruined her family name. In response, Yuan killed him.
  • Call-Back: Yuan Wong from the previous case reappears as the killer.
  • Dragon Lady: Yuan was this in her youth, being a burglar nicknamed "The Dragon" who was never caught due to her robberies.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Chief Marquez warns you about Fredo Mancini, the leader of the Bomb-Throwing Anarchists group called Inner Chaos, before you meet him in Case 14.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Yuan was perfectly willing to murder David, but she did at least knock him out to spare him the pain of his throat being slit.
  • Family Honor: Yuan killed David after the latter tried to blackmail her for money, which would've destroyed her family.
Yuan: Family always come first. David never quite understood that. For the sake of my family, I had to kill him. I had no other choice.
  • Food Slap: The killer threw hot tea at the victim's face before murdering him.
  • Heteronormative Crusader: You meet Heather Valentine in this case, Hannah's girlfriend whose parents have put a restriction order on her because they can't accept her sexuality.
  • Late for School: The case begins with Amy being late for work, with her trying to crawl under the desks to avoid an scolding from Chief Marquez.
Chief Marquez: Next time you arrive late, Amy, just remember that my office gives directly into the entrance, and that crawling under desks gets you noticed.
  • Living a Double Life: Yuan had one in the past, working as a burglar with the victim under the surname "The Dragon".
Yuan: So I started to live a double life for years. The perfect housewife by day, a burglar by night. Don't be so surprised, <Player's Rank>, I was almost an athlete back then!
  • Non-Residential Residence: The victim had been living in a synagogue ever since he was released from prison. Jacob Fishman, the Rabbi, offered him to stay there while he turned his life around.
  • Outlaw Couple: David and Yuan were one focused on burglaries, though it was actually an affair as she was married to another guy.
Yuan: That's how I worked with "The Wolf". That's when I fell for him. I had two lives, so I had two loves. And when he got to jail, "The Dragon" disappeared with him.
  • Parental Substitute: When David was sent to prison, Jacob Fishman, the local Rabbi, took care of his daughter Eva in the meantime.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Slashed Throat: How the victim was killed, right after being blinded with hot tea.
  • Super Doc: This case introduces Mark McKenzie, a doctor so famous and expensive he's the go-to medic for Ivywood stars and rich people and is now helping poor people in the bowels of Inner City.
  • Tragic Mistake: Killing David ended up being one for Yuan, who managed to remain uncaught from all the burglaries she committed in her youth only to be arrested much later for murder.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Amy gives one to Judge Dante during Yuan's trial.
Honorable Dante: Oh, you mean you're the one standing accused of David Breitman's murder? It's too bad, I just let him out of prison a few weeks ago!
You could have done it 25 years ago, it would have saved everyone a lot of time and paperwor—
Amy: YOUR HONOR! What are you talking about?!
Honorable Dante: Oh, sorry, excuse me Miss Young, I lost myself here. Moving on!
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Yuan seems very sad when you announce to her that David has been murdered despite she being the killer.
  • You Killed My Father: Myriam Miller, the delicatessen owner, becomes a suspect when you find out her father and David were thief partners, but a careless act from David led to her father dying in a police shooting.
Myriam: So I'm not sad he died, and I sure won't mourn him. I'm glad that someone finally avenged my father!
  • You're Not My Father: Eva, the victim's daughter, grew to resent her father after he was put in prison, accusing him of ruining her life because he was caught and everyone made fun of her. So when he returns after 25 years, she's understandably angry with him and only decided to help him out of pity.
