"Is my bum getting warm?"

A Plot: Lacey is in the market for a new car and invites Brent along, as she feels the salesman won't give her a good price if she's on her own. After Brent proves a little too eager to choose any car with a neat add-on, Lacey switches gears and gets Hank's help instead.

B Plot: Wanda gives Oscar advice on what to get Emma for their anniversary, but her tips prove to be failures. Meanwhile, Emma's gift to Oscar, a pair of sunglasses, goes bouncing around town.

C Plot: Deciding to be more healthy and less stereotypical, Davis and Karen switch from donuts to zucchini muffins as their morning snack, but find that they taste terrible. They gradually make changes to the recipe in an effort to mask the zucchini flavour, until they eventually end up being even more fattening than donuts, so they switch back.

Tropes Referenced:

  • Brick Joke: After Brent tells Lacey to "not take any guff" and "brook no foolishness" from car salesmen, Lacey agrees there should be "no guff-brooking". Hank then wonders why she doesn't like Guff Brooking, an in-universe country musician. Later, at the car dealership, Brent points out a poster advertising an upcoming Guff Brooking concert.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • Wanda is suggesting gift ideas for Emma:
Wanda: Have you thought of a day at the spa?
Oscar: Yeah. That could get me to relax, help me to think.
    • Karen also misses the point of eating healthier, as what start out as zucchini muffins turn into what are essentially cupcakes, laced with butter and candy.
  • Derailed Train of Thought: When Hank claims that donuts are "the worst thing in the world for you", Davis and Karen get distracted by naming things that would be worse, like a chainsaw accident or getting a piano dropped on your head.
  • Donut Mess with a Cop: Davis and Karen try to avoid this after Hank points it out.
  • Hidden Depths: Hank is apparently very adept at choosing gifts for people. Even if his gift suggestion seems like a really bad idea (like getting your wife a bathroom scale for an anniversary gift), the recipient will end up loving it. He is also excellent at haggling, a skill which can probably be attributed to him being constantly broke and unemployed.
Hank: I'm good at payin' less for stuff.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Hank claims he never buckles under pressure, then is immediately pressured into buying a slice of pie.
    • Hank lectures Davis and Karen about donuts being bad for you and claims that he stays trim by eating healthy. Davis asks what he snacks on, and Hank says, "Uh, I just ate a pie. But I got a fast metabolism." Then he grabs a donut from Davis and Karen's box before walking away.
  • Irony: Discussed when Brent reveals that he lost the gas station's Lost and Found box.
  • Malaproper:
Emma: I found your sunglasses case and it's empty. They're expensive. You should keep them in here.
Oscar: Nah. I like to go commando.
Emma: That's not what that phrase means.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: This is Hank's attitude toward the yearly Car Guide.
Hank: It's got everything: action, suspense, graphs...
  • Running Gag: People losing Oscar's sunglasses, only to for them to be excitedly found by someone else. By a fluke of luck, they end up back with Oscar on the counter at the Ruby, just as Emma is about to tear him a new one for losing them.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Regarding Oscar shopping for Emma's anniversary gift.
Oscar: I don't know what to get her.
Wanda: [sarcastically] Well, coming to a gas station is a good start. Motor oil... washer fluid... 2-litre bottles of pop...
    Oscar: Oh! She likes pop!
    Wanda: Don't get her pop.
  • Sexist Used Car Salesman: Lacey is advised to bring a man car shopping with her to deal with any sexist salesmen who might try to mark up the price on her. She tries Brent, who is so impressed by a car with heated seats that he insists she buy it no matter what it costs and refuses to even look at anything else. She later tries Hank, who gets her a great deal offscreen.
  • Shout-Out: When Oscar walks into the gas station wearing his new sunglasses, Wanda jokingly asks him if he's there to pimp her ride.
  • Weird Aside:
Davis: You never see anyone with a good yo-yo anymore.
Karen: You always start conversations as though we've been having a conversation.
