Recap / Code Prime - R2: Revolution, 29 "Light and Darkness"

Go To

Optimus Prime and his friends must fight to survive Shockwave's ambush, and to destroy the Geass Order once and for all.

  • Adaptational Context Change: Megatron still uses the Dark Star Saber to destroy an Autobot's own sword, but instead of it being the Star Saber it ends up being Grimlock's broadsword.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Nunnally feels that Madd being killed rather than captured is perfectly fitting after what he did to Alice and her friends.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Although the Autobots and Black Knights manage to destroy all the Thought Elevators, rescue the Headmasters and Anya, and even seal Megatron in a Shadowzone in the Sword of Akasha, C.C. loses her memories in the process.
  • Character Death:
    • Senba is killed by a Red Pawn.
    • Clara dies when the Dark Fafnir is shot down by Oiagros and Orpheus.
    • Madd is stabbed in the brain by Sayoko.
  • Decapitated Army: Madd being killed causes the Red Pawns he was remotely controlling to shut down, giving the Autobots and Black Knights a fighting chance.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Senba is killed by a Red Pawn crushing his Knightmare's cockpit, as opposed to it being impaled by Gino in canon.
  • Dramatic Irony: Starscream in his cameo mused over whether he would need to put Schniezel's plans into motion to overthrow Megatron given the power boost he's giving himself by forging the Dark Star Saber. Then after all the fighting in this episode, Starscream will get the leadership of the Decepticons by default due to Megatron's disappearance. The Autobots basically rendered their plans unnecessary by accident.
  • Fear Is the Appropriate Response: When Megatron recognized Nunnally, all Nunnally could feel at that very moment was fear, in comparison to the other Decepticons and madmen she's faced before.
  • It Amused Me: Megatron admits to V.V. that even after he became Nemesis Prime he never expected him to be capable of defeating Optimus or Lelouch, and merely kept him around so he could watch him continue to humiliate himself by constantly failing and falling from the pedestal he has placed himself on. Unfortunately for V.V., Megatron no longer finds him amusing.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The chapter ends with the shocking reveal that Cera has lost her memories.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": When Ratchet, Misty, Rivalz, Toto, Sayoko, and especially Nunnally encounter Megatron underground.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Megatron's speech to V.V. over how You Have Outlived Your Usefulness is similar to the one he gave to Starscream in the episode "Rock Bottom".
    • Megatron is trapped in a Shadowzone, much like Soundwave was at the end of Transformers: Prime.
  • Not His Sled: Megatron uses the Dark Star Saber to battle against Optimus' Star Saber, but unlike in the original the Star Saber is not destroyed.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Megatron is trapped in a Shadowzone while in the Sword of Akasha, which is then cut off from Earth by the destruction of the Thought Elevators. The author's notes for the chapter compare this to being locked in an airtight vault that is then dropped into the middle of the ocean.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Lelouch outright tells Shockwave that he and his master Megatron underestimate what humans are capable of. The fact that the Black Knights and their Autobot allies come out largely on top despite everything that the Decepticons have done to stack things in their favor proves his point.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left:
    • Shin flees when the Red Pawn squad backing him up shuts down.
    • Megatron orders Shockwave to retreat when the Geass Order is on the brink of collapse.
    • V.V. flees the battle when he senses the other Thought Elevators being destroyed, trying to reach the last one and trigger Ragnarök by himself. However, Megatron intercepts him before he can.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Megatron can only scream in unbridled fury when he is not only trapped in the Shadowzone, but also trapped in the Sword of Akasha, which itself is separated from Earth by the destruction of all Thought Elevators, making it impossible for him to return.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Megatron destroys Grimlock's broadsword with the Dark Star Saber.
  • Wham Episode: A LOT happens in this chapter:
    • Senba of the Four Swords is killed in battle.
    • The Driller, the Dark Queen, the Dark Fafnir, the Red Pawns, and the Thought Elevators are all destroyed.
    • The Headmasters and Anya/Marianne are all freed.
    • Hot Shot escapes from the Nemesis, and succeeds in stealing the Forge of Solus Prime.
    • Arkeville is captured by the Autobots and Black Knights, while Madd is killed.
    • It is implied that Megatron stole V.V.'s Code, which would have killed him in the process.
    • Megatron is trapped in the Shadowzone while in the Sword of Akasha, which is then cut off from Earth by the Thought Elevators' destruction.
    • Cera loses her memories in the process of sealing Megatron away.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Megatron catches V.V. crawling towards the last Thought Elevator after being defeated by Optimus and Lelouch, and realizes he is trying to trigger Ragnarök. He goes on to explain that he never actually expected him to defeat Optimus or Lelouch, even as Nemesis Prime, and only kept him around for his amusement seeing him constantly fail and fall from the pedestal he put himself on. But now he has become too predictable to bother keeping around anymore, with it being implied Megatron stole V.V.'s Code, which would result in his death.
