Recap / Code Lyoko S 4 E 30

Go To

Following their final victory against XANA, our heroes gather for one last time to definitively shut down Supercomputer, and in as much put an end to their lives of adventure, danger, and unforgettable experiences… Yet only Yumi seems ready to turn the page: Jeremy, Odd, Ulrich and Aelita clearly don’t want these times to end! In re-living some of their most intense and memorable adventures, the now retired Lyoko Warriors come to grips with the end, while Sissi finally unveils their secret…

This episode contains examples of:

  • Apocalyptic Log: Jérémie keeps one, and it's revealed here that his logs are via his supercomputer, as well as his Laptop. The narration for XANA Awakens is also from these video logs.
  • Brick Joke: When Sissi skips class to investigate the Lyoko Warriors, she tells Hervé and Nicholas to make up some excuse for her absence; Nicholas, saying the first thing that comes to mind, tells Jim that Sissi ran into some aliens and went crazy, which he naturally thinks is ridiculous. Later on, after Sissi returns from the factory having learned the truth about XANA and the Lyoko Warriors and wanting to tell everybody, Jim does think she's gone crazy and apologizes to Nicholas.
  • Continuity Nod: So Many. More pertinently, the XANA Awakens mini-series finally gets referenced by Jérémie during his flashbacks of him starting up the supercomputer and meeting Aelita for the first time.
  • Call-Back:
    • Many of XANA's previous attacks are mentioned by Jérémie in his Apocalyptic Log videos or by Sissi after she viewed said videos.
    • Ulrich and Yumi sharing a moment in the park before being enveloped by the return to the past parallels their Almost Kiss in Routine, which is displayed on-screen.
  • Cassandra Truth: Sissi goes to the factory, discovers the Supercomputer and learns the truth about Lyoko and XANA through Jeremie's video diary (which serves as basic recaps of all their Lyoko adventures). She storms into her father's office and starts rambling to him about everything the Lyoko Warriors have done and been through. At first, the group is terrified of being caught. Naturally, he doesn't believe her and instead takes her to the infirmary; believing she's mentally lost it.
  • Clip Show: Many clips of previous episodes, mostly action scenes on Lyoko, are shown as the Lyoko Warriors discuss their reasonings for shutting down or not shutting down the Supercomputer.
  • Dénouement Episode: With XANA destroyed in the previous episode, there are no action scenes in this episode, and nobody is virtualized onto Lyoko. The conflict comes from the Lyoko Warriors' grappling with whether or not they should shut down the Supercomputer. Eventually, they do.
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: Discussed and ultimately averted; the reason why Jérémie is so reluctant about shutting down the supercomputer is because he's afraid that his group of friends will drift apart after everything is over. However, Yumi assures him that their friendship is too strong to be "shut down".
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Sissi, when she finds out the truth about the supercomputer and Lyoko. Jérémie is forced to launch one last return to the past to fix this.
  • Grand Finale: The final episode of the original series.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Odd and Ulrich's reasoning for not wanting to shut down the Supercomputer initially, but in slightly different directions. Odd worries that life without Lyoko would be boring, while Ulrich enjoyed being a hero, and was worried that the good times Lyoko brought him would end. Eventually, they both come around to shutting it down while realizing a life of normalcy doesn't have to be boring and they still have plenty of good times ahead of them.
  • I'm Not Hungry: In the beginning of the episode, Odd declares himself this when Aelita offers him her croissant, citing he has his own before the declaration. She, Ulrich, and Jeremie concede that they are this way, too.
  • Just Friends: Yumi makes it very clear to William that, unlike her relationship with Ulrich, there is truly no hope of them becoming a couple and she has no interest in him.
Yumi: No, I think life without Lyoko's going to be different, but okay.
William: So you're exactly like me. (Takes Yumi's hands) You're an eternal optimist.
Yumi: (Takes her hands away and leaves) Not when it's a lost cause. See you around, pretty boy.
  • Literal-Minded: When Sissi is about to leave to go to the factory, she tells Hervé and Nicholas to make up some excuse for her absence from P.E. class. When Nicholas asks her what to say, Sissi simply tells him to say "the first thing that pops into his head". Hilarity Ensues:
Jim: Does anyone knows where Sissi is?
Nicholas: She ran into some aliens and went totally crazy!
  • Maybe Ever After: Ulrich and Yumi's relationship status is not definitively resolved. But, their final conversation (which consists of hand-holding while sharing a Held Gaze) as they promise there will be "plenty of good times" after the end of Lyoko (along with a montage of their Battle Couple/romantic moments, ending with their Almost Kiss) seems to imply that they'll eventually get together.
  • Tracking Device: Sissi plants one on Ulrich's back and tracks his movements, discovering that the heroes hang out at the factory. After the return to the past, Ulrich stops her from putting it on him.
  • Secret Diary: Sissi finds Jérémie's diary in the supercomputer and is horrified by the truth about the Lyoko Warriors.
  • Thanking the Viewer: The whole cast (even XANA who's dead as of this episode) wave goodbye to the audience as their last moments on the show.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Lampshaded by Jeremie as he and Aelita discuss turning off the supercomputer and moving onto normal lives. He comments on how amazing it is that they've saved mankind from certain destruction many times over and no one will ever know of their heroics that saved the actual world.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Ulrich decides that it's time to mend fences with Sissi, and declares her an official friend of the group. She makes a total personality switch, becoming nicer as she re-confirms they are indeed friends, even politely greeting Yumi as she passes by her, which leaves Yumi rather shocked.
