Recap / Code Lyoko S 4 E 27

Go To

Another Replika mission for our heroes. This time, as Ulrich and Aelita battle an indestructible giant new monster, Odd and Yumi are teleported to a base in Siberia, where they are faced with William, himself teleported there by Xana. Also, Ulrich bears the brunt of Yumi’s fury, after avowing responsibility for a practical joke… of Odd’s doing!

This episode features examples of:

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: XANA debuts a gigantic new monster, named the Kolossus by Odd. It's shown to be much bigger than the Skid and the towers and the Lyoko Warriors are unable to do much to it.
  • Blush Sticker:
    • Yumi, eventually convinced by Odd that Ulrich supposedly published the photo to get her attention, makes up with Ulrich and gives him a kiss on his forehead. She walks off, just as Ulrich begins madly blushing from the moment and stammering out a goodnight. As he catches up with Odd, he notices Ulrich seems off. Ulrich comments that he's good and appears in a really good mood.
    • Jeremy and Aelita each get one as well when Jeremy comments that while pink isn't Yumi's color, it looks much better on Aelita.
  • Brain in a Jar: Odd and Yumi find a bunch of them in the Siberian base.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • While Odd and Yumi are at first able to hold William off outside the facility, when he catches up to them inside it, they are no match for him.
    • The Kolossus easily devirtualizes Ulrich and Aelita, and their weapons seem to do little more than scratch it. If that.
  • Cycle of Revenge: Odd embarrassed Yumi by publishing her old photo in the Kadic newspaper, Ulrich took the blame for it and, after deciding against telling Yumi the truth, Yumi decides to get back at the both of them by publishing a photo of them "coming out of the shower". Cue Ulrich chasing Odd around the campus vowing to kill him for starting the whole drama to begin with.
  • Door Slam of Rage: When Ulrich takes the blame for Yumi's embarrassing photo being published, a hurt Yumi chews him out and slams the door shut in anger. Ulrich noticeably flinches as she does so.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Yumi's stance on her old childhood photo being passed around school. Odd had it published, believing it would be a funny joke. During their mission, he tries convincing Yumi of this, but soon realizes how the photo being published genuinely upset her.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo: Odd gives a childhood picture of Yumi to Milly and Tamiya where she is dressed in a pink ballet tutu and with a blonde wig as a little girl. Ulrich initially takes the blame to cover for Odd. Yumi later pays back Ulrich and Odd by giving Milly and Tamiya a picture she took of them coming out of the shower.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Yumi is genuinely hurt and shocked at the idea of Ulrich being the one to have embarrassed her. She is left in near tears before running off, demanding he never speaks to her again. Throughout her mission with Odd, she insists on knowing why he would hurt her like that and how it's so unlike him.
  • False Confession: Ulrich initially takes the blame for giving the photo to Milly and Tamiya, albeit reluctantly. Odd does set things straight by the end of the episode out of guilt for straining the relationship.
  • Fight Like a Normal: William doesn't use the Super Smoke when teleported. His sword, however, still proves to be enough to give Odd and Yumi a hard time.
  • Friend Versus Lover: While Yumi and Ulrich are not actually dating, Ulrich still finds himself in this kind of predicament. He's essentially sacrificing his friendship with Yumi (not to mention how he's still very much in love with her) while saving Odd the consequence of publically embarrassing Yumi. Eventually, he can't deal with Yumi all but casting him out of her life and demands Odd tell her the truth or he will.
  • Glorious Mother Russia: Briefly alluded to when Jérémie talks about the Siberian supercomputer to Odd and Yumi.
Jérémie: Yumi, Odd, I think the Supercomputer is based on a Russian M-13 Machine.
Odd: Da! Whatever you say comrade.note
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: The Kolossus wipes out Ulrich and Aelita without much sweat, and Aelita notes that it has enough power to wreck the Skid just with one whack.
  • Implacable Man: Nothing stops the teleported William. Nothing. Knocking him down outside the facility only slowed him down. Locking the metal door was useless : he opened it with brute force. Razor-sharp fans and laser arrows still couldn't stop him. Aélita had to deactivate the tower teleporting him to send him back to Lyoko.
  • Loophole Abuse: When Yumi demands the name of the person who gave Milly and Tamiya her old photo, Milly refuses to give any information as it's unprofessional. However, Tamiya tells her how "it's one of her very best friends and he's in the wreck room that minute". Milly gives her a Death Glare for spilling their source, while Tamiya remarks that she didn't actually say who it was or give Yumi a name.
  • Love Makes You Stupid: What Odd convinces Yumi is the reason Ulrich supposedly gave the photo to Milly and Tamiya to publish. He remarks how "love makes you a little crazy". Yumi is left stunned at this and is moved to resolve her grudge with Ulrich, even giving him a small kiss. She tells him that if he wants her to notice him then to simply talk to her "instead of doing something so stupid".
  • Meta Twist: Aelita goes up the tower, and we cut to Jérémie acting all calm and cushy. However, Aelita realizes that the tower controls Williams' teleportation to the real world, and he asks Jérémie to gather data on in before entering the Code Lyoko. Jérémie agrees, and the crew have to hold out for a few more minutes, then Aelita plugs the Code Lyoko in.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ulrich outright threatens Odd to confess about the photo, but changes his mind when he realizes how Yumi feels about it. Unfortunately, his threats worked, and Odd comes clean soon after, which just makes Yumi even angrier... at both of them this time.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: XANA activates a tower to teleport William onto the base on Siberia. As the tower contains the programs that XANA uses to control William, Aelita is able to hack into the tower's data to retrieve those programs, allowing her and Jérémie to find a way to free William. Before this happened, Jérémie and Aelita had been trying all season to free William, with little success.
    • By creating the Kolossus, XANA tips Jérémie off that he controls hundreds of supercomputers around the world, because he needed to gather power from all of his Replikas to spawn it. This makes Jérémie realize that the group needs to change its strategy to defeat XANA.
  • Noodle Incident: When Yumi mentions how angry she is at Ulrich and has never been so angry in her whole life, Odd asks her "Even that time I threw your math homework in the incinerator?"
  • Oh, Crap!: Odd, Yumi and Jérémie are clearly horrified when a teleported William shows up. For good reason.
  • Pet the Dog: When Yumi is humiliated by her photo going around the school and endures being mocked by several girls, Aelita and Jeremie approach her and simply ask if something is bothering her and what's wrong. They genuinely act as though they have no idea what's going on. When Yumi makes it clear she didn't want to talk, they change the subject. When she walks away, they reveal a magazine behind their back and agree that "pink isn't [Yumi's] color".
  • Sarcasm Mode: Jérémie enters in this mode when Yumi makes a pretty poor description of the supercomputer she has in front of her in the Siberian base.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Jérémie pulls the "Hi" variant on Aelita, presumably because he's in a good mood, something which the rest of the cast note is unusual for Jérémie to do.
  • Undying Loyalty: Ulrich and Odd's friendship is so strong, Ulrich willingly takes the blame for Yumi's embarrassing photo being published to spare him her rage... at first, anyway. He realizes he can't take Yumi being furious with him and ends up demanding he confesses the truth. Odd, eventually, feels enough guilt about it. He comes clean to Yumi and asks her to stop being mad with Ulrich.
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: Odd calls it the new monster; Kolossus. The team admits it's dumb, but the name is at least accurate.
