Now finally face-to-face with Clovis, Lelouch uses his power to extract information about the death of his mother, Marianne, a common-born honorary knight who was assassinated in a supposed terrorist attack that also left his sister Nunnally crippled and blind. Clovis, compelled by Lelouch's power, reveals that he knows nothing of the circumstances surrounding Marianne's death, and that the ones privy to what happened the day she died were his elder siblings, Cornelia and Schneizel. Satisfied with what he was able to learn from Clovis, Lelouch executes him.

The following day, Lelouch returns to school, resuming his duties with the student council alongside council president Milly Ashford, and his classmates Rivalz Cardemonde and Nina Einstein. When they overhear about news from Shinjuku, Lelouch flashes back to when he murdered Clovis and throws up. All the while, Villetta Nu and Jeremiah Gottwald, members of the "Pureblood" faction of Britannians that opposed the Honorary Britannian system who were present at Shinjuku the previous day, make their plans to further their agenda.

Back at school, Lelouch learns that one of his classmates, Kallen Stadtfeld, had returned to class after recovering from illness. Lelouch recognizes her as the redheaded terrorist from the previous day. During lunch, he approaches her and uses his power to ask her why she was working with the terrorists. She answers that she is actually Japanese, but was born half-Britannian. Satisfied, Lelouch starts to leave, but then turns around and tries to use his power on her again to warn her not to mention Shinjuku. This, however, causes Kallen to become confused, as well as Lelouch, as his power was not working on her this time.

Lelouch returns home that night to Nunnally and his maid Sayoko, who had been teaching Nunnally about origami and Japanese culture, such as how one's dream can come true if one folds a thousand paper cranes. Nunnally tells Lelouch that she wishes for the world to be a gentler place, a wish Lelouch hopes to grant with his newfound power.

The following day, Lelouch experiments with his power, attempting to use it twice on a teacher to ask about essay subjects and discovering that his power can only be used once on a person. As Kallen makes contact with Ohgi and the other terrorists and is instructed to stay at school for the time being, she remembers Lelouch warning her about Shinjuku and worries that he may know her secret, a concern Lelouch shares.

After class, Lelouch brings Kallen to the student council ballroom, in the hopes they could talk without interruption. Their discussion is cut short by the other student council members arriving and holding a party to celebrate Kallen's induction into the student council, an idea from Milly's father, the school's headmaster.

After getting soaked with champagne, Kallen leaves to take a shower. As Lelouch brings her a change of clothes, she grabs his wrist while he brings her a knife-concealing wallet and starts questioning him about Shinjuku. The phone begins to ring, which Lelouch answers to avoid drawing suspicion. He hands the phone to Kallen, who discovers the caller is the voice that aided her and the other terrorists at Shinjuku. He instructs her to come alone Tokyo Tower the day after tomorrow. Kallen's suspicions about Lelouch are cast aside as Lelouch suggests Kallen plays a lot of online war games, and that he was warning her about Shinjuku because of how sensitive the subject was.

Unbeknownst to Kallen, the voice she was talking to was actually a recording played over the phone by Sayoko, under Lelouch's power.

Afterwards, while discussing club duties, Lelouch and Kallen see a news report about Clovis's death. As Jeremiah, who hijacked Clovis's motorcade from a disgraced Bartley, condemns the murder of Clovis, it is revealed that a suspect has been arrested: an Honorary Britannian named Suzaku Kururugi!
