Recap / Captain N The Game Master S 2 E 8 The Feud Of Faxanadu

Go To

After accidentally ending up on the world of Faxanadu, the N Team schisms over which local race deserves their help more in finding an ancient magical crystal.

Tropes:

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: The elves and the dwarves both have blue and green skin note . Except Melfis, anyway; his face is blue, but below that he's caucasian.
  • Bad Butt: When Captain N tries to sound "tough" to talk to denizens of the Bad Guy Bar to find the ruby ring, he does what sounds like a terrible John Wayne impression.
  • Bad Guy Bar: There's one full of rogues where the N Team finds the thief with the magic ruby ring they're looking for.
  • Elemental Powers: The crystal lets its owner harness air, water, fire and earth.
  • Elvish Presley: King Melfis, ruler of the elves and also an Elvis Impersonator. For some reason.
  • Eyepatch of Power: The thief Snake-Eye Snelf wears one.
  • Fantastic Racism: Between elves and dwarves, since both believe a wizard from their race created the crystal. It turns out they're both right: the crystal was made by a "dwelf", who apparently had a parent from each race.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Dwarfina has to decide between saving King Melfis, or getting the magical crystal everybody's been competing to get all episode. She does the right thing in the end.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: They don't get much more generic than "the Evil One".
  • Just Eat Gilligan: The Evil One proves to have the only key to the area where the crystal he wants is hidden. Yet for some reason he sells it to Dwarfina instead of just going in and getting it himself.
  • Magic Ring:
    • The Evil One gives The Mole a skull-shaped one to report back to him over their journey to find the crystal.
    • There's also a ruby ring (this one actually from the game) that can levitate boulders out of the way.
  • Mineral MacGuffin: The magic elemental crystal.
  • The Mole: One of Dwarfina's attendants is actually a spy for the Evil One. Not that this gets used more than once.
  • Only Sane Man: Princess Lana, who's the only one to see how stupid it is to compete even after they find themselves on an important mission to save the world.
  • Power Up Letdown: For such an all-powerful MacGuffin, the crystal of the elements sure doesn't give the N Team much trouble.
  • Save the Villain: When the thief Snelf cuts his rope, Kevin grabs Snelf's rope, but saves him from falling miles to the ground below in the process.
  • You Don't Look Like You: The Evil One looks nothing like Faxanadu's final boss. The writers probably never finished the game, and counted on the kids watching not to have beaten it either (which is fair, since all but the most dedicated probably hadn't).
