Recap / Captain N The Game Master S 1 E 3 The Most Dangerous Game Master

Go To

Dr. Wily creates an android based on Mike Vincent, a bully from the real world, and who is the only person Kevin fears. The android challenges Kevin to a contest to prove who the real Game Master is.

Tropes:

  • Gone Horribly Right: The android easily captures the N Team, but when Mother Brain tries to tell him the contest he proposes with Kevin is pointless because they've already won, he arrogantly blows her off. Lana mocks Mother Brain for making not just a formidable villain, but a bully with no respect for authority. It ends up going even farther, with Kevin being able to remind the android he and Mike Vincent used to be friends and they can join forces.
  • Hidden Depths: Kevin reminds the android that once he and Mike were best friends, which gets him to switch sides.
"I did better than beat him, Simon. I became his friend again."
  • I Know What You Fear: Dr. Wily invents a gizmo that can scan somebody's mind and display their worst fear, which tells the villains about Kevin's fear of Mike.
  • Informed Flaw: We're shown that Simon's worst fear is having his blood drunk by Dracula. When they face off a little later in the episode, Simon easily confronts and defeats the vampire.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard's TV repairmen disguises are just hats and shirts. It would've failed instantly if someone besides Simon answered the door.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: Mike-droid's M Team, made up of monsters. Extra points with how the monsters seen actually do represent a large portion of the bosses from the original Castlevania.
  • Series Continuity Error: For ease of production, one supposes, but the flashback to Kevin and Mike's childhood is animated in the same style as the content in Videoland. Most other first-seaso instances that reference Kevin's trip from Earth to Videoland usually acknowledge that "real" Earth looks like live-action.
  • Show Within a Show: We see a couple in this episode like the first appearance of Wombatman, and Donkey Kong Jones.
  • Universal Remote Control: Used for comedy in one scene. Eggplant Wizard has a remote control that he uses to turn Duke into a series of animals, and a fed-up King Hippo uses it to turn Eggplant Wizard into a beautiful blonde woman.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Kevin and Mike Vincent were friends when they were younger, before Mike turned into a bully.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: After Mother Brain blows him away, the Mike Vincent-droid says not to worry about his demise, since he's only mechanical. That doesn't seem to take into account Mega Man, a fellow robot who's treated as an equal teammate and friend to the other heroes.
