"Vacation Getaway" is the 23rd/finale episode of Season 6 and the 140th overall. It originally aired May 26, 2010.
Shane Casey is apprehended, but escapes yet again and goes after Danny, Lindsay and Lucy while they're on vacation.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: After Danny jokingly asks Lindsay how she'd get away with killing him and suggests that she would use her forensic know-how to clean up the scene, she responds that she wouldn't clean up but would claim that Danny was abusive to her. She then proceeds to act out just how she'd convince the police.
  • Bolivian Army Cliffhanger: The episode ends with a mild version; it involves just the Messer family and Casey, not the whole team. Casey is holding Lucy in one arm and a gun in his other hand. Danny is trying to talk him down when Lindsay approaches with her gun. The screen goes black... a shot is fired... now what?
  • Bullet Holes and Revelations: Played straight. As the final screen goes black, a gunshot is heard. Cue a four month wait for the next season to begin.
  • Disney Villain Death: Casey falls from the top of a lighthouse into the ocean and is assumed to have perished.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite wanting revenge on Danny, Casey shows no interest in harming Lindsay or Lucy until Lindsay tells him to go to hell, and even then he lets them leave without protest.
  • Handy Cuffs: Casey escapes custody by strangling a guard with the shackles around his wrists and ankles.
  • Lighthouse Point: While on vacation, the Messer family visits a lighthouse at the north end of Long Island.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Everyone thinks Casey is gone for good when he falls from the lighthouse into rocky water with strong currents. Mac notes that it could be months before his body washes ashore, if it ever does.
  • Not Quite Dead: Near the end of the episode, it is revealed that Casey survived his fall with only some scrapes and scratches.
  • Save the Villain: Zigzagged. When Casey topples over the side of the lighthouse railing during their fight and latches onto it with one hand, Danny grabs him and tries to pull him to safety. Casey intentionally lets go, falling into the rocky water below. However, he does survive and goes back to threatening the Messer family.
  • Sequel Episode: The story will conclude with the Season 7 premiere, "The 34th Floor."
  • Soft Water: The only way Casey could've survived, given the height of his fall and the abundance of craggy rocks below.
  • Smash to Black: The episode ends with a black screen immediately after Lindsay and Casey take aim at each other... and a single shot is heard before the ending theme music begins.
  • Vacation Episode: The Messer family takes a trip to Long Island. They are shown driving there in a rented convertible, building a sandcastle on the beach, and visiting a lighthouse.
  • Vehicle Vanish: Casey holds a hostage at gunpoint and drags her across the street. A bus passes between the two of them and Mac & Stella. After it goes by, the woman is standing there alone.
  • With My Hands Tied: Even with his hands cuffed behind his back and then chained to the shackles on his feet, Casey manages to wrap the chain around his guard's throat, strangle him, grab him and hurl the two of them out of a three-story window, using the other man's now-dead body as a cushion when he lands on the sidewalk below.
