"She's Not There" is the 14th episode of Season 5 and the 106th overall. It originally aired February 11, 2009.
A man searching for his missing daughter is found stabbed to death. The investigation leads to the discovery of a sex trafficking ring.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Bathroom Break-Out: The team search a building where the sex trafficking ring held their victims and find a young woman hiding under a cot. She asks to use the restroom. Initially thinking her to be a victim, they let her. While she's taking her time, they deduce that she's in on it, break the door down, and discover that she has escaped through the window.
  • Deadly Road Trip: The deceased had come to America from Ukraine in search of his daughter who, in turn, had come in search of a modeling career and got coerced into a prostitution ring.
  • Forced Addiction: The traffickers coerce young women with promises of modeling careers, stage a party and serve them drinks laced with sedatives. This keeps them compliant and curbs their appetites, but it also makes them thirsty, so they're given bottles of water laced with the same drug, and the cycle continues.
  • Human Trafficking: The villain runs a prostitution ring which exploits girls on a global level.
  • Model Scam: Girls are promised jobs as models, then sexually trafficked.
  • No True Scotsman: Seeing his "It's the Big APPLE" sweatshirt, the team (and Sheldon in particular) correctly assume he's not a native New Yorker.
  • Sex Slave: The villain forces women from around the world into prostitution.
