Upon the release of Dr. Sweets' new book (in which he details their working relationship while also insinuating that the two are in love), Booth and Brennan decide to come clean about their actual first meeting, which also includes how Brennan met Angela and Booth and Brennan's first (drunken) kiss.

- The Bus Came Back: Since the flashbacks take place thirteen months before the pilot, Zack Addy returns as Brennan's grad student.
- Expository Hairstyle Change: Everyone has different hair in the flashbacks.
- Fanservice: There's a questionable third instance where Brennan and Booth kiss in a flashback. However, due to an actual kiss that also occurs in the episode, the status quo does change going forward.
- How We Got Here:
- Origins Episode: The episode covers not only how Bones met Angela, but also how Bones met and came to work with Booth, how she got her nickname, and how Hodgins and Zach developed their love for crazy experiments.
- Stylistic Suck: Angela's still an excellent artist, but lacks the Angelatron, so is forced to resort to a flipbook to recreate the murder.
- Whole Episode Flashback: Most of the episode is relegated to the first case Bones and Booth ever worked on.
