Recap / BoBoiBoy S2 E2 "The Haunted House"

Go To

Gopal recaps last episode; BoBoiBoy is in the same class as his friends and everyone is happy (except for Fang), and that BoBoiBoy visited the haunted house despite Gopal's warnings. At Tok Aba's Cocoa Shop, BoBoiBoy asks his grandfather about the abandoned house, and he says that others claim it's haunted, but he doesn't believe it. Other bystanders, Mr. Mat and Mr. Kumar, say that it is haunted, the former claiming that he's seen it before, and the latter telling of the story behind the house, though he later admits that his son Gopal is the one who told it to him.

Gopal finally arrives from his long alternative route, and finds the others talking about the very haunted house that he's avoiding. Probe overhears and reports to Adu Du, and they go the house to try to recruit the ghost. Not long after Probe leaves, BoBoiBoy wants to bring Gopal along to investigate the apparently haunted house. As Adu Du and Probe venture inwards, they suddenly hear loud banging, and hide in fear that they angered the ghost. However, BoBoiBoy and Gopal arrive at the house not long after they do, and the former knocks loudly on the banister to get the ghost to come out. Adu Du and Probe break a mirror, and BoBoiBoy walks to the sound and finds their alien nemeses.

The heroes are quick to pin the blame on Adu Du and Probe for scaring people as the so-called ghost, but despite proclaiming how long he's been waiting to get back at the hero, Adu Du denies such claims. They run at each other to fight, but a Shadow Strike from behind Adu Du sends them all flying outside. Jumping down from the newly made hole in the wall is Fang, who summons a Shadow Tiger to chase Adu Du and Probe away. BoBoiBoy asks how he has powers and why he's attacking them, and Fang answers that he's only attacking BoBoiBoy as retribution for stealing the spotlight from him, even in his absence. Fang and BoBoiBoy duel until sunset, at which Fang stealthily leaves the fight.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Comically Missing the Point: To explain what a ghost is to Adu Du, Computer shows him a "find the differences between two pictures" test before jump scaring him with a picture of a ghost. A terrified Adu Du instead thinks that "ghost" refers to the technology used for the Jump Scare.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: Probe's reasoning to ask the so-called ghost to join the villains' gang is because they are evil as well, so there's no reason for the ghost to not want to join them.
  • Haunted House: As suggested by the title, BoBoiBoy and Gopal investigate what they think is a haunted house somewhere within Rintis Island, while Adu Du and Probe have their own investigation. According to a legend, the house had been inhabited by a family for the past six months, only for the family to go mysteriously missing on the seventh month. There is said to be a ghost there that sometimes appears to be a human, and sometimes appears to be a tiger. While the house has no ghosts in it, the ghost appearing to be a human and a tiger isn't too far off from Fang's Shadow Manipulation abilities, as he uses that haunted house for practice and creates a tiger using his Shadow Manipulation.
  • Like Father, Like Son:
    • Just like his grandson BoBoiBoy, Tok Aba is the only one among the adults who never believes the haunted house story for a bit.
    • Just like his son Gopal, Mr. Kumar likes to spread the haunted house story.
  • Not Me This Time: When BoBoiBoy and Gopal find Adu Du and Probe in the haunted house, they naturally accuses Adu Du of pretending to be the ghost. Adu Du denies it and we know Adu Du is there just to find the ghost.
