Recap / Bluey Perfect

Go To

It's Father's Day, and Bluey is determined to make Bandit the perfect father's day card.

Tropes:

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Played lightly. Chilli assures the girls that their dad will love anything that they make for him. Bluey and Bingo challenge that notion by drawing a simple line on a paper and asking if he'll love it. This is enough for Chilli to take back what she said.
  • Bowdlerise: The original version of one scene has Bandit talking to one of his friends, Fido over the possibility of vasectomy. The international airing had to re-animate and re-dub the scene so that Bandit talks about the possibility of having his dog teeth removed.
  • Dramatic Drop: Played for Laughs. A Flashback shows Bluey dropping a box of cereal out of shock after seeing Chilli cover up one of her refrigerator drawings (with the entire door being covered in such drawings) with Bingo's "perfect" one.
  • Flash Back Episode: Played With. Bluey recalls different memories of her playing with her dad but the flashbacks are based on new content.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When looking at the fridge to find a place for Bingo's picture, it's covered with previous drawings the girls have done. These include one of their cousins Muffin and Socks (with Muffin's picture, appropriately, featuring her screaming loudly), and one that shows Uncle Rad and Aunt Frisky together, complete with a little heart.
  • Furry Reminder: Fido and Bandit's conversation displays, as usual, that these anthropomorphic characters deal with the medical issues of real dogs. Judging by Fido's remark that he got to "keep them", what sounds like a conversation about getting a vasectomy is actually about neutering; the censored version gets in on the act by discussing the removal of canine teeth as a parallel to wisdom teeth.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Chilli didn't mean to hurt Bluey's feelings when she hung Bingo's 'perfect' picture over Bluey's rather good drawing of her with her mother. In fact, she was hoping to do it discreetly so as to not hurt Bluey's feelings. Unfortunately, she didn't take into account that Bluey was nearby all along.
  • Jaw Drop: Bluey has this when she witnesses Chilli suggest to Bingo she put her 'perfect' picture over Bluey's on the fridge.
  • Parents as People: In an episode about pursuing perfection, this trope is rather apt. Chilli didn't mean to hurt Bluey's feelings when she suggested to Bingo to put her picture over Bluey's. In her defense, she wanted to do it discreetly, and she only had Bingo put her picture over Bluey's because the fridge had too many pictures as is. Nonetheless, Chilli is remorseful that she's personally responsible for her daughter's lack of self-esteem throughout the episode. She even apologizes and acknowledges rather soberly that she herself isn't perfect.
