Recap / Blue Lock Team Zs Foundation

Go To

The 8th Story Arc of the Blue Lock manga series, which centers on Team Z's downtime after their victory over Team Y. Isagi runs into Chigiri during a night that they can't sleep, which Chigiri theorizes that Isagi's weapon might be "spatial perception;" the ability to see the entire football field. Chigiri also reveals his story to Isagi where he's lost his motivation to play football due to suffering a knee injury in the past, and that he's scared that reinjuring it could ruin his dream of being the best striker. Afterwards, Ego provides the new Team Z rankings with Isagi as the team's new top player due to him scoring the winning goal against Team Y. Following behind Isagi's lead, the team other than Chigiri becomes motivated to continue training for their upcoming match against Team W.

It makes up chapters 14 and 15 of the series.

Chapter 14: Resolution

After the game against Team Y, Team Z celebrates their victory over two sirloin steaks that were earned from the goals scored by Isagi and Gagamaru. As they share their food together, Kunigami congratulates Isagi for stepping up at the end of the game, which Isagi states was just luck since his desire to score had him just ending up at the spot he believed the ball would end up in front of the goal. As a result, Kunigami takes this as confirmation that Isagi's weapon is indeed "goal scent." A brief recap of the V-Z Round-Robin tournament is then provided where all teams have 3 points other than Team Y being at 0.

That night, Isagi's unable to sleep due to being hyped up over the goal he scored. Isagi desires to better understand his "goal scent" weapon, which he heads over to Team Z's Monitoring Room where players can view recorded games for football study. At the Monitoring Room, he finds Chigiri there having not been able to sleep either. They watch the recorded Team Z vs. Team Y together. Chigiri pointing out how great it must have felt for Isagi when he scored that last second goal. Isagi notes how he doesn't understand how he pulled it off, which Chigiri suggests that Isagi's weapon might actually be "spatial perception" where unlike most players only being able to focus on what their eyes see in front of them, Isagi has such high eye observation and instinctual play that he can see everything that goes down on the football field.

Isagi then asks what Chigiri's weapon is. Despite refusing at first, Chigiri relents to tell his story due to Isagi refusing to back down. Chigiri reveals how he once had a weapon, but lost it after suffering a torn ACL injury a year ago. The doctor warning him of permanently reinjuring his knee should he continue to play football. As a result, Chigiri is stuck between not wanting to reinjure his knee, and not wanting to give up his dream of being the world's best striker, which has left him in a depressed state. Chigiri then gets up to leave claiming that he came to Blue Lock to search for a reason to finally give up on football. However, Isagi calls out Chigiri as a liar since he can tell that they're both people who don't want to throw away their dream. In return, Chigiri just says that Isagi doesn't know him, and then leaves.

Chapter 15: Spiral

Behind-the-scenes at Blue Lock, Anri has the job of cleaning up after coach Ego since he's too busy focusing on training up his strikers. She asks Ego how the First Selection's going, which Ego assures her that they're getting to the good part. Ego then prepares a bowl of instant ramen since he never ate such meals when he was younger.

Meanwhile, Team Z is seen training on their practice field. Despite knowing that he has potential football weapons in goal scent or spatial perception, Isagi's unable to recreate the goal that won them the game against Team Y. Ego then appears on the field's television to inform Team Z that the next two V-Z strata matches have been played. Team V beating Team W 5-1 in Game 5, and Team Y beating Team X 4-3 in Game 6. The V-Z Round-Robin tournament now has all teams at 3 points other than Team V being at 6. Ego then distributes new rankings for Team Z, and points out that meaningful goals really affect the rankings. As a result, Isagi is named Team Z's new top player at Rank 265 followed by Kunigami, Gagamaru, Bachira, Kuon, Raichi, Imamura, Iemon, Naruhaya, Chigiri, and Igarashi in that order. Before signing off, Ego provides a bit of advice that their next step is to develop their weapon into something great now that they know what it is.

Team Z's next match is set to be the next day against Team W. As Team Z heads off the practice field to get some rest, Isagi remains on the field as he still wants to better understand his goal scent and spatial perception weapons. Isagi then realizes that the only time to better understand his weapons is by actually playing in a game, which he starts running laps knowing that he needs to keep his stamina up to last an entire match. It then turns out that Team Z has all returned to join in with Isagi's secret training knowing that they can't lose to Team Z's new top player. Bachira pointing out that Isagi has now become Team Z's foundation, which hypes up Isagi to continue running. However, Chigiri remains at the side of the practice field as the only one not running with Team Z.

Meanwhile, Ego watches Team Z run behind Isagi, which he points out that Blue Lock's true essence is starting to take shape. That Team Z having a leader now has sparked a flame that's sent them all down a spiral of competitiveness.
