Anagram for: "Lift the curtain"

  • Affably Evil: Rich Dotcom is a dream party host, who also just happens to be one of the most dangerous people on the planet.
  • Atrocious Alias: Zapata thinks Rich Dotcom sounds stupid.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Weller in his tux, which is the first time he's worn any kind of non-casual clothing thus far in the series.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Reade and Zapata arrive and provide air support just as Jane runs out of ammunition and guards are descending on her and Weller.
  • Character Death: David is killed by the mysterious woman he was trailing. Saul Guerrero is also shivved to death before he can sign a false confession.
  • The Chessmaster: Dotcom is this throughout the whole transaction, looking for something to trip up his "buyers." Fortunately, Jane and Weller are pretty good at this kind of thing themselves.
  • Fake-Out Opening: When Patterson's boyfriend David sees a woman accessing the book in the library used for passing messages and decides to follow her, he's conspicuously being observed and followed by an ominous-looking man. The man turns out to be an FBI agent assigned to monitor the book.
  • Indy Ploy: Jane and Weller have to improvise their way through the transaction with Dotcom.
  • Mexican Standoff: When Weller and Jane try to get Rich Dotcom out of his mansion, he alerts two guards and an armed confrontation results.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Not Jane, as she obviously has to wear a fairly modest Little Black Dress in order to cover up most of the tattoos on her torso. Patterson, in her cleavage-baring dress, on the other hand...
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: Apparently Carter's default solution when dealing with any problem.
  • Oh, Crap!: Dotcom's response when Jane and Weller Take a Third Option during the Mexican Standoff.
  • They Clean Up Nicely: Comments are made or noted by other characters in response to Weller in a tux, Jane in a Little Black Dress with makeup hiding the tattoos, and by the audience when Patterson appears in her much more revealing dress.
  • Take a Third Option: Rich Dotcom points out to Weller and Jane during the Mexican Standoff that if they shoot him—which they won't do, he's confident, as they are federal agents who have him in custody—his guards shoot them, thus their only option is to lay down their guns. Jane and Weller shoot the two guards.
    Rich Dotcom: Or there's that.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Despite being told repeatedly by Patterson that what he's mucking around in is dangerous, David takes it upon himself to follow a woman using the library book they'd discovered being used to pass messages.
  • Villain Ball: Even if the hit on Guerrero was the best thing to do, it wouldn't have made things worse by doing so after he signed the faked confession for Mayfair, which would not only have accomplished what Carter thought was best, but would also have given Mayfair's plan a chance to succeed.
  • You Have Failed Me: Rich Dotcom shoots one of his guards who allowed his access card to be stolen.
