- Important Haircut: To symbolize his transition from harmless accountant to badass pirate, Dufresne’s hair is cut short by the crew after they make him quartermaster.
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Silver wonders aloud if Randall is doing this after he ends up as Randall’s caretaker, even positing the theory that Randall deliberately manipulated events so as to remain with the crew. If this is true, the last thing he's going to do is tell anybody, least of all Silver.
- Rousing Speech: Vane gives one to the former buccaneers enslaved at the lumber camp.Charles Vane: You don’t know me, but you once did when I was the lowest among you.
