Our group is asked by Colonel Rozum to investigate the Garbage Vortex, an island made of garbage where people seem to disappear.

- Anyone Remember Pogs?: Ben certainly does, given his excitement when finding some in a box of junk to throw away.
- Behemoth Battle: Way Big proves very useful once the living trash island becomes a trash monster, at Kaiju scale.
- Brief Accent Imitation: Kevin impersonates the narrator of Captain Planet a few times.
- Bullying a Dragon: Defied and lampshaded. The agents point out that they're breaking standard operating procedure with regard to Ben, because his power level means it wouldn't be prudent to do otherwise.The Men in Black: Standard operating procedure is to show up unannounced, then demand you come with us. But we know we're dealing with Ben Tennyson, so we're asking. Would you please come with us?
- Continuity Nod: Kevin points out how embarrassing it was the last time Team Tennyson had to help the Air Force.
- The End... Or Is It?: As Ben hopes destroying the Kaiju will end the pollution problem, we cut to a random person throwing a can into the ocean.
- The Ghost: Colonel Rozum’s sister is one of the hostages of the garbage creature, but is offscreen throughout and mentioned to be unconscious by the agents.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Kevin comments that the agents remind him of a show.
- Shout-Out: Kevin drops multiple references to other shows...and gets slightly frustrated when no one else sees the connections, asking if he's the only one who watches television.
- Agent Locke and Agent Bryson are expys of Agent Scully and Agent Mulder. Kevin tries to remember the name of that show with two secret agents investigating the paranormal, one skeptical and one believing.
- Kevin mentions a show he watched as a kid, where there's "five heroes with the power to recycle and fight polluters". Ben and Gwen don't pick up on the reference.
