Recap / Ben 10 Ultimate Alien S 3 E 02 Simian Says

Go To

Simian and Eunice come to Ben for help when the former’s planet of Arachna is infested by DNAliens.

  • Assimilation Backfire: According to Mizaru, the Xenocyte Queen attempted to subject him to a Face–Monster Turn like the species usually does. But Mizaru is so powerful that he ended up taking control over the Queen instead. That said, he still decides to infect his own people anyway, just to make them more powerful and submissive to him.
  • Bait the Dog: After Simian decides to crush the Xenocyte queen instead of using it to gain power for himself, Ben believes that Simian does have the heart of a prince after all. Then Simian steals Cooper's DNA repair guns behind the team's back and sells them to the Incurseans, proving that while he does sincerely care for his planet and fellow Arachnachimps, it's not enough to make him give up his life of crime.
  • The Bus Came Back: Simian and Eunice make their return in this episode after their last appearance in "Birds of a Feather" and "The Transmogrification Of Eunice" respectively. The DNAliens also return as a threat for the first time since Alien Force, though this time they've infected Arachnachimps instead of humans.
  • Cliffhanger Copout: When last seen, Simian was being approached by a Highbreed who proceeded to spray him with an acid strong enough to eat through the floor. Here, he’s shown to be completely fine.
  • Cutting the Knot: When Eunice is turned into a DNAlien, Ben restores her to normal by switching her back into the Unimatrix and back on.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Played for laughs with Mizaru. After being forcibly cured of his DNAlien affliction, he roars that Ben has made a dangerous enemy and he hasn't seen the last of him...only for the bridge he's standing on to collapse as a Root Shark eats him. Essentially, the bridge dropped below him.
  • Enemy Mine: Ben, Gwen and Kevin are not particularly excited to work with Simian again after his previous con job on them, but they concede that the return of the DNAliens on his homeworld is a grander threat, and so agree to help him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Though Simian is a manipulative and unplesant con man, he still cares about his homeworld and people, and so asks Ben and his team for help. He also destroys the final Xenocyte rather than infecting himself for more power.
  • Face–Monster Turn: Eunice is briefly infected by the DNAliens, forcing Ben to have to fight against her before finding a way to cure her.
  • Irony:
    • When we first met Simian in Alien Force, he was working on behalf of the Highbreed. to help with their invasion on Earth. Here, Simian enlists Ben's help because their Xenocytes have infected his homeworld.
    • When confronted by Ben, Mizaru declares that he has become stronger than any Arachnachimp in the world by performing an Assimilation Backfire with the Xenocyte Queen. He ends up getting defeated by Ultimate Spidermonkey, the actual evolved version of his own kind.
  • Genocide from the Inside: Kind of. After being infected by the Xenocyte Queen and subsequently taking control over it, Mizaru begins to forcibly infect his fellow Arachnachimps into DNAliens in the hopes of becoming more powerful than ever.
  • King Mook: Mizaru, the Arachnachimp who retains his individuality and controls the others. Doubles as a Fat Bastard due to his girth, being about as strong and tough as Ultimate Spidermonkey (minus the tarantula legs).
  • Self-Made Orphan: As Ben mockingly comments that Mizaru’s mother must be proud of him, the crime lord says that she was one of the first he transformed.
  • So Last Season: Defied. Ben's Ultimatrix can’t repair genetic damage like the old Omnitrix and Cooper's blasters aren’t tuned for Arachnachimps like they were for humans, ensuring that the Xenocytes remain a threat here.
  • Sudden Name Change: Eunice's model has gone from the Unitrix to the Unimatrix.
  • Tempting Fate: At the beginning of the episode, Ben notes that it's been about a week since someone has tried to kill him, threaten the world or ask for his autograph. Right on cue, Simian shows up and lampshades his poor timing on asking for help.
  • Not Brainwashed: Unlike the rest of the infected Arachnachimps, King Mizaru is completely in control of himself while infected by the Xenocyte Queen, and in fact embraces the newfound power he has. Ben defeating and curing him causes him to declare them sworn enemies...not that it ends up mattering.
  • Oh, Crap!: Simian freaks out when Eunice warns him that the process to turn his species back to normal might get "messy". It ends up being justified, given he ends up being electrocuted by the ship's device.
  • We Will Meet Again: Subverted and lampshaded. When Mizaru promises that the heroes have not heard the last of him, a Root Shark immediately surfaces and eats him alive.
Gwen: ...and now we have heard the last of Mizaru.
