Gwen meets one of her more obnoxious distant family members.
Ben and Gwen’s Cousin Sunny is supposed to stay with Gwen for the summer. The team learns why her parents sent their child to Gwen when she helps them stop a robot invasion.This episode contains examples of:
- Big Good: Verdona acts as this in the episode, as Gwen has to call upon her just to subdue Sunny from causing anymore trouble on Earth.
- Chekhov's Gunman: Sunny makes frequent mention of her boyfriend Antonio, who eventually shows up just as Gwen states she doesn’t want to hear his name again.
- Comically Missing the Point:
- Gwen gets annoyed at Sunny and Ben discussing their love lives, and threatens to share the tale of “the time I threw my least favourite cousin out of the car”. When she decides to follow through on this, Ben is relieved that she was referring to Sunny rather than him.
- Grandma Verdona can't fathom that perhaps the reason why Sunny turned out the way she did is because she had her superpowers practically handed to her.
- Deus ex Machina: It looks like Gwen is no match for Sunny and is at her mercy...only for Verdona to show up out of nowhere and incapacitate Sunny to rescue Gwen and her friends.
- Disappointed in You: When compared to how she treats Gwen, Verdona won't sugar-coat how disappointed she is in Sunny for turning out to be such a Spoiled Brat.
- Dumb Muscle: Antonio is strong enough to take on the likes of Humungosaur and Ultimate Humungosaur, but he's not very smart, as not only does he start banging a dangerous bomb onto the floor, but he also gets easily tricked by Ben into tearing a still activated floodlight out of the ground and electrocuting himself into unconsciousness. Ben even outright calls him a doofus.
- Expy: Sunny is a homage to Serena, matching with Verdona being one for Endora.
- Foil: Sunny is everything Gwen isn't. She's a Spoiled Brat who grew up on on Anodyne with her powers practically handed to her, while Gwen grew up on Earth having to work hard to keep her own powers in peak shape. Both girls are also in love with a bad boy, but while Kevin had to truly turn over a new leaf to earn Gwen's affection, Sunny is madly in love with Antonio even though he still runs with a bad crowd.
- Guile Hero: While fighting Antonio as Ultimate Humungosaur, Ben gets the idea to challenge him to an impromptu fencing challenge using some nearby stadium floodlights. He cleverly picks one that's currently deactivated, while Antonio grabs one that's still on, and electrocutes himself into unconsciousness.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: When Sunny realizes that her grandmother has returned to take her back to Anodyne, she quickly forms a reflective barrier to protect herself from her. In response, Verdona morphs the barrier into a spherical prison, incapacitating Sunny for good.
- Improvised Weapon User: Exploited by Ben. When it becomes clear that he can't take on Antonio in a one-on fight, he picks up a floodlight and challenges the man to an unofficial fencing match. Except not really - it's really just a way to trick Antonio into knocking himself out.
- Oh, Crap!: Sunny has this reaction when Verdona shows up to break up her and Gwen’s fight and take her and her boyfriend Antonio home.Gwen: I’m not as powerful as you, I’ll give you that. (smirks) But Grandma Verdona, on the other hand…
Sunny: (turns around to see Verdona floating behind her) Grandma?! (puts up an force field in front of herself) No! I'm not going back! You can't make me!
Verdona: Oh, do be quiet. I'm so cross with you right now. (traps Sunny in her own force field) How an energy being became such a spoiled brat is beyond me. - Summon Bigger Fish: Try as she might against Sunny, Gwen just simply isn't powerful enough to even inflict a scratch on her. She eventually gets the idea to get their grandmother's attention, who descends to Earth and effortlessly traps Sunny using her own magic.
- This Is Gonna Suck: Natalie isn’t pleased to hear that Sunny is also an Anodite.
- Uncanny Family Resemblance: If it weren't for Sunny's black hair and blue eyes, one would think she and Gwen were twins.
