Tropes

  • Arc Welding: The werewolf from "Benwolf" and the mummy from "Under Wraps" are revealed to be working alongside Dr. Viktor (the source of the purple lighting that appeared in their debut episodes and also happened to appear in "Game Over") under Ghostfreak (who would escape from the Omnitrix back in "Ghostfreaked Out").
  • Back from the Dead: Ghostfreak is resurrected by Dr. Viktor in the last minute of the episode.
  • The Bus Came Back: The episode opens with the alien werewolf freeing the alien mummy from imprisonment.
  • Career Not Taken: Ben and Gwen learn that their grandfather Max was once a candidate to become the first man on the moon as part of the Apollo 11 mission. Max doesn't mind his lack of notoriety, as he took "his step for mankind in other ways" by becoming a Plumber who defended Earth from alien invasions instead.
  • Chain Pain: The Batman Cold Open has Ben going after several prisoners who hijack their bus during transport. One of them uses their discarded shackles to fight back and does so pretty effectively.
  • Destructive Savior: During a High-Speed Battle with some escaped convicts, Ben as Stinkfly ends up causing the Rustbucket to swerve in a circle by accidentally shooting goo on one of the wheels. Since Max was about to shoot lasers to pop the tires of the convicts' escape vehicle, he ends up accidentally slicing the bridge apart.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: Dr. Viktor, who is a large scientist with a thuggish face and aggressive personality, couldn't scream "bad guy" any louder. The other scientists eventually realize that they never hired him.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Ben recognizes the remains of the Clock Tower where he defeated Ghostfreak, just in time for Dr. Viktor to bring him back from the ashes.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Dr. Viktor turns out to be an alien version of Frankenstein's monster.
  • How Do I Shot Web?:
    • Ben finally turns into the Mummy’s species, and spends the first minute getting wrecked because he can't figure out how to move his bandages.
    • Gwen has similar trouble using Charmcaster's spellbook. She doesn't even know what her spells do before she casts them.
  • Older Than They Look: The NASA flight director, Max’s old friend from when he was in the space program 40 years ago, doesn’t look a day over 45.
  • The Reveal: Dr. Viktor wasn't the mastermind of the season's overarching plot, Ghostfreak was.
  • Transformation Sequence: Dr. Viktor receives one upon attaining his true form.
  • Villain Teleportation: The alien monsters get to distant locations with a portal that generates purple lightning.
  • Wham Line: The Reveal gives us 3 in a row.
    XLR8: I don’t know what your plan is, but it’s over, Franken-Freak!
Dr. Viktor: Oh, it’s not my plan. It’s the Master’s. It always was!
(Purple lightning arches through the room, lighting up the device)
XLR8: "The Master’s"? Who’s the— (glances around the room) wait a minute… I know this place!
Dr. Viktor: Yes. It is where you believed you destroyed my Master. You were wrong.
(Dark, shadowy blobs start emerging from the cracks in the wall of the clock tower. They reconfigure in a burst of purple lightning to reveal…)
    Ghostfreak: I LIVE!
