An old villain shows off his new tricks.
The team receives a distress call from Helen in the Null Void. Ben travels there to help and discovers a war between the resistance led by the Wrench and the new ruler of the dimension, D'Void, better know to Ben as Dr. Animo.- All There in the Manual: Dr. Animo came to the Null Void in search of new animal DNA, but ended up stuck within, after which he decided to rule the place.
- Artificial Limbs: From this episode onwards (until the Art Shift of Omniverse]], Manny had one robotic hand along with his three organic ones.
Word of God was that he engaged in Bullying a Dragon with a Havoc Beast. - Badass Boast: After Humungousaur sends Animo through the floor.Humungousaur: See? I told you it hurts.
Animo: Give me a moment, and I'll show you real pain. - The Beastmaster: Animo's ability to control animals allows him to control the Null Void's Guardians and enslave everyone else.
- Big "NO!":
- Max after Ben jumps into the machine's furnace.
- Animo after the machine is frozen solid.
- Bring It: After Ben is presumably roasted in the machine, Animo says that Max is next. Max responds by raising his staff.
- Defiant to the End: After Ben freezes the machine that’s powering Animo, the latter still tries to take on Max even after his plans have been thwarted and he loses control of the Null Guardians. While it predictably ends with Max knocking him out with a punch, it was still pretty gutsy of Animo.
- "Eureka!" Moment: Ben when he realizes that the machine is the key to Animo's power boost.
- Five-Second Foreshadowing: As Pierce lets Ben into The Wrench's home he warns him not to eat anything he offers, a hint of Max's adventurous cooking.
- The Friends Who Never Hang: When he walks into Ben’s room and sees a hologram, Kevin bemoans that they’re never just playing video games whenever he comes over.
- I Choose to Stay: Max could've returned home whenever he wanted to, but he opted to stay in the Null Void after he saw what was being done to the locals. Even after Animo's been defeated, Max opts to stay behind so that he can get the place back on track.
- I Let You Win: Ben fights Pierce in his human form, and throws the fight anyway so that Pierce would be less paranoid about him. Max even mentions that Ben could’ve won easily.
- Legendary in the Sequel: This episode marks Dr. Animo's return to the series, and he's become a Nigh-Invulnerable overlord of the Null Void known as "D'Void" thanks to his ability to control the Null Guardians. The Plumber's helpers are shocked to learn that Ben used to beat Animo all the time as a ten-year-old.
- Meaningful Rename: Max, the Plumber, becomes known as the Wrench as a resistance leader against Animo's reign. One could refer to him as a Spanner in the Works because of this.
- Nigh-Invulnerable: Animo's machine allows him to shrug off all kinds of damage the closer he is to it. Once Ben freezes it as Big Chill, he's Brought Down to Normal.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: After Animo is powered down, Max gives him one to keep him from escaping.
- No-Sell: Thanks to the machine, Animo can effortlessly brush off Chromastone's blasts.
- Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Ben wastes no time once Animo finally recognizes him."Are you still a doctor, Animo? Because it hurts when I do this!" (turns into Humungousaur and punches him through the floor)
- The Reveal: The Wrench is Max Tennyson, who has been helping the denizens of the Null Void fight back against Animo's tyranny.
- This Cannot Be!: Animo in response to his machine being frozen.
- Took a Level in Badass: Dr. Animo was previously a comedic villain who relied on his mutated creations to be a threat. Here, he's played seriously, with his victims and the resistance being terrified of the overlord known as "D'Void". He's also bulked up considerably, being able to throw Humungousaur around like a ragdoll.
- We Meet Again: Dr. Animo when confronting the group, during the climax.Animo: Max Tennyson, so you're the mysterious Wrench. And, young Ben, always a pleasure to try and end your miserable, intervening life!
- Wham Shot:
- Ben sees that the D'Void is none other than Dr. Animo.
- The Wrench pulls back his hood and reveals himself to be a Not Quite Dead Max.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Ben says he still needs his guidance, Max tells him otherwise and says this adventure proves it.
