When Commissioner Gordon is arrested for accusations of accepting bribes from Rupert Thorne, Barbara Gordon must prove him innocent as Batgirl.

Tropes:

  • Clear Their Name: Commissioner Gordon is accused of being an employee of Rupert Thorne, Gotham's ranking mob boss.
  • Dirty Cop: Gordon is framed for being one. Gil Mason is a straight example.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Janet van Dorn, the new DA following the previous one’s turn to crime, makes her debut here ahead of her larger role in Trial.
  • Emerging from the Shadows: Two-Face stays in the shadows until the very end of the episode (though, between his undisguised voice and the obvious half-and-half nature of his hideout, there's no suspense whatsoever about his identity).
  • Friendship Moment: Upon learning Gordon was arrested, Batman immediately gets to work proving his innocence and later lets him know what he's found thus far.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: A variation based on actions rather than words. Film of the rally calling for Gordon to be granted bail shows Gil Mason ducking for cover before Two-Face's goons got out their guns and started shooting up the place, indicating that he was in on it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Bullock reassures Barbara that members of the force know Gordon's innocent and will be attending a rally to that effect.
  • Loophole Abuse: Part of the forged evidence that Gordon took bribes includes phony receipts for a South American bank, which (as the conspirators wanted) causes him to be deemed a flight risk and denied bail.
  • Masquerading As the Unseen: Barbara Gordon gets her start as Batgirl initially by impersonating Batman so the Caped Crusader could make an appearance at the rally.
  • Miranda Rights: Police Commissioner Gordon is arrested for a crime for which he was framed. The officer begins to recite the Miranda, but Gordon angrily stops him dead with the fact that he for obvious reasons is quite familiar with the recitation.
  • Oh, Crap!: Barbara's reaction when she saw one of the goons she unmasked at Gil Mason's place, realizing he's involved. She originally came to reveal to Mason what she finds out, instead she says she just wanted to know if he's okay after the rally shooting.
  • Properly Paranoid: Batman is certain there's much more to the conspiracy than just framing Gordon.
  • Revenge: Two-Face settles an old score by masterminding Thorne's downfall.
  • Taking You with Me: Attempted by Thorne when facing Batman on the roof. Naturally, he fails.
  • To Be Continued: Batman (in his hood disguise) loses a coin toss and is knocked out by Two-Face's mook. Meanwhile, a certain someone finishes getting ready.
Batgirl: So Batman won't help me? Fine. In that case, let's see what Batgirl can do.
