After being targeted by the Society of Assassins for her failure to assassinate Sam Young, Curaré has since turned the tables against her aggressors and killed them off one by one. With only one member of the Society left to target, she will soon set her sights on the person who caused all of her trouble in the first place: Batman. Worse yet, Bruce is currently away on a business trip, thus forcing Terry to rely on Max for help in defeating Curaré.

Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Mutro Botha, as well as all of the other assassins that Curaré has killed. When Max is distressed that she inadvertently contributed to Botha's death, Terry comforts her by pointing out that he was no innocent flower and knew exactly what he was getting into.
  • Assassin Outclassin': Granted Curare is an assassin too, but it's still impressive that she took out the entire Society of Assassins.
  • Call-Back: The way that Max disarms the bomb at the end is nearly identical to the way that Batgirl did in "Sins of the Father." Complete with the same dialogue:
    Can we go home now?
  • Dead Man's Switch: Botha blackmails Batman into protecting him from Curare with a hidden bomb that will explode unless he inputs a password every few hours.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Bruce going out of the country for a few days just when Terry needs him most.
  • Dragon Their Feet: Botha, to the head of their order (whose orders he was acting under as he headed to Gotham), given how Curare takes out the guy in the first few minutes.
  • The Dreaded: Curaré becomes this to the rest of the Society of Assassins, to the point that the Society's leader has been flying nonstop in an airplane for months, too afraid to land on solid ground. Not that he's unjustified, mind you; he lands once and she finds the plane immediately.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Curaré dispatches her quarries by using a gas to render them brain dead.
  • Hero for a Day: With Bruce absent, Max gets A Day in the Limelight to directly aid Terry with his crime-fighting. And she loves it:
Max: How do you do it?
    Terry: Do what?
    Max: This hero thing.
Terry: It's easier for me. I got the suit.
Max: No, how do you save the world...and not tell anybody?!
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: The bomb that Mutro Botha hid turns out to be located in another bomb: a replica of the Little Boy inside a military museum.
  • I Have Your City: Mutro Botha coerces Batman into being his bodyguard by planting a bomb in an unknown location in Gotham and threatening to detonate it unless Batman complies with his demands.
  • I Am the Noun: How Botha introduces himself to Batman. He's not exaggerating, as Curare's taken out everyone else.
Batman: Mutro Botha. Heard of you. You're a member of the Society of Assassins.
Botha: I am the Society of Assassins.
  • The Millstone: Max, at first. While searching Mutro Botha's apartment, she leaves herself open to attack by Curaré, forcing Batman to abandon Botha to save her and thus giving Curaré the opportunity to kill Botha. She makes up for it later though.
  • Mind Rape: The way that Curaré kills her fellow assassins is by shooting a capsule into their chest that wipes out their mind, leaving them brain-dead with their physical bodies still intact.
  • Never Say "Die": A mild example. Curaré uses a toxin to render all of the members of the Society of Assassins catatonic, with it being stated that they're still alive multiple times. Curaré even foregoes cutting off the head of the leader when she notices his lack of response. Despite that, the remnants of the organization continually refer to themselves as the last surviving members.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Curaré not only managing to overturn her Bolivian Army Ending in her previous episode, but now has gone Roaring Rampage of Revenge on the Society ever since, with only two members remaining by the time this episode begins.
  • Oh, Crap!: Botha is visibly alarmed to find out that he and the Society's leader are the last two left.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Curaré shows this when she catches Max in Botha's hotel room. She raises her sword to kill Max, but lets her live when she gets a closer look at Max and realizes she's not her target.
  • Revenge Before Reason: In the final battle, Terry tries to warn Curaré about the bomb, but she either doesn't believe him or doesn't care, too hellbent on killing him.
  • Sequel Episode: To "A Touch of Curaré".
  • Save the Villain: Subverted. Terry is more than willing to let Botha rot and feels no pity for what happens to him at all. Botha's bomb threat is the only reason he helps him.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Max was found in this state when hiding in the bathroom of Botha’s hotel room after her encounter with Curaré, traumatized at how close she was to being killed.
