Gotham City District Attorney Sam Young is scheduled to testify in a high-profile court case against an international arms dealer. Because of this, however, he becomes the target of a notorious assassin named Curaré. Terry is determined to protect Young and catch Curaré, but things become further complicated when he discovers that the D.A.'s wife, Police Commissioner Barbara Gordon, is the former Batgirl and warns him to stay out of the situation.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Bruce notes that Curaré's scimitar is laser-sharpened to an edge no thicker than a molecule.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: Villainous example. Curare escapes custody, but there's already a contract on her life, an attempt even being made while she's fleeing in a stolen police wagon. However, it's later revealed that she makes it through and then some.
  • Call-Back: Barbara telling Terry that Bruce is a Manipulative Bastard echoes similar words and sentiment Dick Grayson expressed when Bruce formally welcomed Batgirl into the Bat Family.
  • Contract on the Hitman: Happens to Curare at the end, the punishment for failure by her own organization. (They sorely regret it.)
  • Distressed Dude: Sam Young. He lampshades this to Barbara, pointing out that usually it is the guy who should be protecting the woman. Barbara playfully chides him for believing in outdated gender stereotypes.
  • Hidden Depths: Terry telling Barbara History is his favorite subject. As later episodes show, this wasn't a bluff, since Terry has actually done research on most of the Batman family history.
  • I Am Not My Father: Barbara states this to Bruce and Terry, warning them that she is not nearly as tolerant of costumed vigilantism as her father had been of the original Batman.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Terry becomes instantly giddy when he finds out that Barbara was the original Batgirl.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: When Barbara casually walks into the Batcave uninvited, Terry, not yet knowing her former identity, immediately panics and asks Bruce what they should do now that the commissioner has discovered their secret. Bruce and Barbara merely greet each other calmly.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Despite her age, Barbara proves herself to still be a formidable combatant.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: While fighting Curaré in Young and Gordon's house, Terry accidentally springs a trap that had been designed to capture Curaré and gets himself caught in it, allowing Curaré to escape. Barbara is not pleased to learn about this.
  • Nightmare Face: Curaré apparently has one, given Terry's mortified reaction to her face when her mask briefly falls off.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • A brief moment when Curaré realizes she is facing two Bat-heroes, not one.
    • Curaré has another one at the end when she realizes that the League has marked her for death. Bruce even assures Terry that she has "other concerns".
  • Sinister Scimitar: Curaré's weapon of choice.
  • Still Got It: Barbara saves Terry and disarms Curaré by using one of his batarangs, demonstrating that she has still retained some of her old skills as Batgirl after all these years.
  • Woman Scorned: Barbara reveals to Terry that she was romantically involved with Bruce for some time and it is implied that at least some of the animosity between them is the result of the less-than-amicable breakup of their relationship.
Barbara: No, I don't hate him. I hate what he's become. Such a great man...so alone.
  • You Have Failed Me: Bruce points out that Curaré is highly motivated in her task to assassinate Young since the Society of Assassins' punishment for failure of a mission is death. Indeed, at the episode's conclusion, we see Curaré frantically fleeing Gotham in a stolen police car. As she is driving, another assassin's scimitar cuts through the roof of her car...
