Recap / Bar Rescue S 4 E 35 Sour Lemons And Bitters Business

Go To

Jon Taffer heads to Youngstown, Ohio, where he gets into a jurisdiction dispute between an irresponsible landlord running his bar like an art gallery and the tenants who are intent on running the business.

Episode Tropes:

  • Crazy Enough to Work: The Burger Bomb is one of the more bizarre drinks seen on the show, but it proves to be a huge hit in the relaunch.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Jacob keeps his food-grade edible crickets in the fridge since he can't afford his own. Both Jon's expert and Taffer himself point out that while they might be safe for human consumption, the patrons don't know that. So if any of them wind up on the bar's food, a customer will think they have a cricket infestation.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: As of July 2023, the bar is still open to great reviews.
  • Jurisdiction Friction: The Martini brothers cut a deal to have their landlord as a partner in exchange for discounted rent. While they are majority owners on paper, Jacob owning the building makes it hard for them to pull a hostile takeover.
  • Manchild: Jacob's art gallery features some rather juvenile art gimmicks like finger painting and dumping lemons in paint. Even the ceiling painting Jacob reluctantly painted, while admittedly well-crafted, looks like something more meant for an 11-year-old. He does get a lot better by the end.
  • Starving Artist: Jacob admits to being this, which is why he uses the bar as his art gallery despite being a net loss for the business.
  • Superior Successor: The Federal takes a similar approach as Piratz, using a corporate approach for a formerly juvenile bar; since this time, everyone, including Jacob, is on board with the changes, it proves to be a lot more successful.
