Recap / Bar Rescue S 3 E 31 Hostile Takeover

Go To

Jon Taffer heads to Bellevue, Nebraska, where the owners can't attract military clients despite being the only bar in the area. The owners pull off the first hostile takeover in Bar Rescue history when they find out how irresponsible one of their owners is.

Episode Tropes:

  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: If someone had told Jerry they ran out of glasses, he would've told them where the extras were.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Sorties Tavern is still open to this day. While the owners sold the business in 2016, it was due to health issues and not due to any failure on their part.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: One bartender point-blank says they will run out of glasses during the Stress Test.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Jerry goes from being drunk off his ass to being a valuable asset. He could've even saved the Stress Test had he been told they ran out of glasses.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: While the other two owners are using Jerry's drunkenness as a cop-out for their own excuses, they are right that Jerry had no authority to sell the kitchen equipment without their approval.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Jerry saves his position as partial owner by pointing out that even if he is drunk, the other two owners don't show up at all, putting all the burden on him.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite it being Jerry's fault they have no kitchen equipment, Jon Taffer generously buys them new equipment.
  • So Proud of You: Jon tells him to enjoy the praise he's getting for his turnaround because he deserves it.
  • Sunk Cost Fallacy: Jerry sold the kitchen equipment to pay rent, but it came at the cost of having no food program. This cost them more in the long run.
  • You Didn't Ask: Jerry's excuse for why he didn't tell anyone they had half a case of glasses in the back during the Test. Jon Taffer accepts this excuse since he was in the kitchen all the time during the Stress Test, so he had no idea.
