Thanos is back and now wields all five Infinity Stones. With his sights set on Earth in revenge, the Avengers must pull a dangerous gamble to bring down the Mad Titan.
- Batman Gambit: The Avengers exploit Thanos's ego to try and get the Gauntlet off him, making him use the Stones one by one, so they can analyze their energy and counteract them.
- Death Is Cheap: Cap, Widow, Hawkeye and Hulk are all aged to death by the Time Stone. Fortunately, Thanos undoes it and brings them back.
- Didn't See That Coming: As Tony states, the Avengers were so focused on the Stones and Thanos they didn't see Ultron getting involved at all.
- Foreshadowing: That the Mind Stone doesn't seem to work on Iron Man is a tip-off to the reveal.
- Hate Plague: What the Mind Stone does to the Avengers.
- Lotus-Eater Machine: Using the Reality Stone, Thanos tries trapping the Avengers in one, but overplays his hand, making it look like all the villains have suddenly turned good. Cap was already suspicious, but seeing the Red Skull apparently giving himself in proves it.
- Mood Whiplash: The Avengers defeat Thanos, grab the Gauntlet and then... Ultron suddenly takes over Arsenal, drains the Stones and runs off.
- Mythology Gag:
- Thanos' floating base is designed off the same one he used in The Infinity Gauntlet.
- Hulk's aged form is based on the Maestro.
- Stronger with Age: Trying to use the Time Stone to age the Avengers doesn't work on Thor; as an Asgardian, he's got a much longer lifespan than everyone else and just gets stronger as he gets older.
- Villain Teleportation: How Thanos uses the Space Stone, though Nat and Hawkeye are able to work out the pattern to his attacks and hit him as he 'ports in.
