Recap of Ash vs. Evil Dead
Season 3, Episode 9:

Judgement Day

"Who's laughing now?!"

Pablo: It's time to test the mettle of man.

Zoe is bound to a chair, being drained of her blood as Ruby and Kaya plan to write a new page of the Necronomicon with the blood to save themselves from the Dark Ones. They cut out a chunk of skin from the Knight's back to use as parchment and Ruby starts scribing the text, but Zoe manages to free herself and tries to escape. Kaya uses black magic to stop her and gouges her eyes out, killing her.

Ash and Pablo bring Brandy to the house, and Ash decides to take a final stand against Ruby. Pablo suddenly goes blind and gets a vision from Ruby's house through the eyes of the Necronomicon, seeing Kaya's spirit inside of Kelly. He tells that they're looking for the rift, and Brandy is left at home while Ash goes to the house and get Kelly's body back.

Pablo goes to the store's cellar and sees that the rift is already open, unsuccessfully trying to close it. He sees the Dark Ones arrive through it, while Ruby feels them as well. They take the lost pages from Pablo, but let him live, leaving the cellar. The town's population becomes possessed by Deadites, and Pablo attempts to find a solution how to stop it. A Kandarian demon gets into the Williams' house and starts chasing after Brandy, but she manages to barricade herself in a work shed. She gets a call from her deceased mother, and the phone bites off half of her thumb. Her hand starts becoming possessed by evil, and she thinks of sawing it off much her father did 30 years ago, but it all turns out to be a nightmare. The phone starts tormenting her with Candace's voice, and Brandy starts fighting back with a file. She gets onto a garden tractor and destroys it. Pablo comes to pick Brandy up from the house, and they drive to Ruby's place.

Kaya creates a protective circle in the house while Ruby continues writing the page. Ash takes Kaya hostage, and Ruby demands him to take her to the rift so that she could banish the Dark Ones into it. Deadite Zoe grabs onto his leg, and Kaya takes the dagger. Ruby then destroys the chainsaw with her bare hands, and Kaya attempts to gouge his eyes out, but the Dark Ones arrive and subjugate them, ripping Kaya's soul out of Kelly's body and putting it back into her own and burning her. Ash gets the dagger, the Necronomicon and Kelly's body out of the room, staying to watch as Ruby's lifeforce gets drained and her body turns into dust.

Ash starts talking to Pablo through the Necronomicon, but doesn't heed the warnings not to go to the store and runs over several Deadites, finally getting a broadcast about the martial law. Pablo and Brandy also head to the store, and Ash almost hits them, but veers away and goes through a bar door. The Dark Ones arrive and take Ash out of the car, taking the Necronomicon and putting the lost pages into it. Pablo is unable to stop the ritual, and they summon Kandar the Destroyer,

Tropes:

• Asshole Victim: Ruby gets her punishment at the hands of the Dark Ones. Considering all the shit she's pulled, like trying to turn Brandy against Ash and killing Professor Knowby, she's unlikely to be missed. Ash certainly has No Sympathy to spare for her.
  Ash: [mockingly] Poor Ruby! I'm melting! Fuck off, bitch!
• Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: The Dark Ones show up during Ash's showdown with Ruby and Kaya, and promptly kill them both. They even expel Kaya's soul from Kelly's body in the process, which Ash needed to be able to bring her back from the dead. Ash takes advantage of the distraction to steal the Necronomicon and make a break for it.
• Bathos: A touching moment of Ash and Brandy embracing each other is interrupted by the latter vomiting on her father's shirt.
• Call-Back: The entire sequence with Brandy in the work shed harkens back to Evil Dead 2.
• Darkest Hour: Ruby and Kaya may have been stopped, but the Dark Ones complete their own ritual and summon a gigantic demon, the likes of which Ash has never fought before.
  Ash: Fuuuck!
• Evil Phone: Brandy's cellphone gets possessed by a Deadite.
  "I'm sorry sweetie, but your call cannot be completed until you're dead!"
• Eye Scream: Kaya drives her thumbs into Zoe's eyes, gouging them out. She later attempts to do the same to Ash, but gets interrupted by the Dark Ones.
• Fan Disservice: We get a glimpse of nude Kaya... just before she gets burned by the Dark Ones.
• Fingore: Brandy gets a thumb bit off by her possessed phone.
• Naked on Revival: The Dark Ones bring out Kaya's nude body to put her soul back into it before burning her.
• Resurrection Sickness: After being resurrected in the previous episode, Brandy ends up repeatedly vomiting, which Pablo describes as "the residual effects of coming back from the dead." Ash doesn't suffer the same effects for some reason.
• Took a Level in Badass: Brandy begins taking one. Being repeatedly tormented by demons in the workshed of Ash's home, she grabs a file and fights back, ultimately killing one possessing her phone with a garden tractor, also gaining his penchant for snazzy lines.
  Brandy: That's it! You want me?! I'm Ashy Slashy's daughter! Come on! Come get some!
• Wrecked Weapon: Ruby destroys Ash's chainsaw during the fight, crushing it like a sheet of paper.
