• Can't Get Away with Nuthin': A twofer. The girls use Lois's make-up without permission, and she's able to bust them simply by finding one lipstick tube with the lid not fully on. Then when they go behind her back and wear their own homemade make-up for the school pictures, said pictures turn out awful and Ginger ends up Grounded Forever.
• Characterization Marches On:
  • Hope Rogers, who'd become a recurring character in Season 2, can be seen in the yearbook. However, her picture appears before Ginger and Mipsy's - so they hadn't decided on her last name yet.
  • Blake's baby blanket is said to be a family heirloom, and each Gripling boy supposedly has a name starting with a B (as the initials on the blanket are BG). Later episodes reveal Mr Gripling's first name as Prescott.
• Cosmetic Catastrophe: The first time they try make-up, it looks okay, if a little much (presumably because it was actual stuff). The second time - in which the make-up is made from gravy, crushed crayons and raspberries...
• Damned by Faint Praise: Courtney's compliments to the girls after seeing them in their make-up is that she's "seen worse".
• Didn't Think This Through: Ginger, Dodie and Macie helping themselves to Lois's make-up and somehow thinking she wouldn't notice.
• Embarrassing Old Photo: The girls' old school pictures; Ginger in particular has her eyes closed in all of them. Macie is told she resembles her Maiden Aunt.
• Evil Laugh: Macie cackles like a mad scientist when making the 'fake-up'.
• "Friends" Rent Control: Lois apparently hasn't finished paying for the house yet, but has an awfully fancy bathroom for herself.
• The Glasses Gotta Go: Macie goes without her glasses for her pictures.
• Gone Horribly Wrong: The girls' attempts at making homemade make-up and then slathering it all over results in horrendous pictures, and the ire of their mothers.
• Guilty Pleasure: Carl still has his old stuffed lamb hidden away in the doghouse.
• Hypocrite: Darren busts Carl for previously having a lamb teddy bear in his past while he's also tormenting Blake about his baby blanket. It's later revealed that Carl still has and cherishes his lamb.
• I Just Want to Be Beautiful: Well the girls just want to look nice in their school pictures.
• Impossibly Delicious Food: Lois ends up testing out the 'fake-up' on her dinner. Specifically the foundation made from gravy and the blush made from cranberries.
• Just the Way You Are: This is what Lois tells the girls. They disagree.
• Kick the Dog: When the girls are worrying about the pictures, Miranda makes a crack about how they'll need their "beauty sleep".
• Makeover Fail: This is the sad result of the girls' inexperience with applying make-up. In their defence, they couldn't ask their parents because they'd been forbidden.
• Metaphorically True: Ginger tries to claim they didn't really break Lois's 'no make-up' rule, since what they used was made from household items. Lois naturally is having none of it.
• Picture Day: The episode revolves around Ginger, Dodie and Macie wanting to look good in their school pictures.
• Pink Means Feminine: Of course the Lovable Alpha Bitch Courtney is wearing a pink dress for her pictures.
• Say My Name: When Lois sees the pictures, she yells out "Ginger!" and it cuts to her doing the same in the kitchen.
• Uncanny Valley Makeup: Or as the popular girls put it...
  Miranda: Are they auditioning for clown school?
  Courtney: I don't know. But if they are, I think they're gonna get in."
