Recap / Arrow S 5 E 6 So It Begins

Go To

As Prometheus begins his killing spree, the new recruits are beginning to chafe from not being treated as equally as Diggle and Felicity. Meanwhile back in Russia, Oliver does his first mission for the Bratva.

  • Aesop Amnesia: Rene hasn't changed one bit since his ordeal last episode; his first lines are questioning why he's being delegated to evacuate people instead of fighting.
  • The Alcoholic: Turns out, Quentin never recovered from this, even after getting his new post as Deputy Mayor.
  • Be All My Sins Remembered: Oliver's killing spree from Season One comes back to haunt him in the worst possible way.
  • Broken Pedestal: Oliver to the new recruits once they find out he was the infamous Hood from Season One, Evelyn takes it particularly hard. In her case it becomes a Rebuilt Pedestal when he rescues her from Prometheus...or so we are led to believe.
  • Create Your Own Villain: We don't learn the exact details, but Prometheus' killing spree is fueled by Oliver's actions in Season One - killing the names of the List.
  • Character Development: Oliver comes to realize he hasn't changed much, while Diggle counters that he has, because he's questioning whether or not his methods achieved anything.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Evelyn's parents being killed by HIVE and the List are brought up.
    • Felicity has to clarify to the recruits that Oliver was also the Hood/Arrow, whom they thought was someone else.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Evelyn gets a lot of focus in the episode, after mainly being in the background for the past few episodes.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Oliver's first mission for the Bratva ends in disaster because he didn't see a mook coming up behind him.
  • Hypocrite: Evelyn accuses Oliver of being one when she finds out he was the Hood, after he tried to stop her killing Ruve Darhk. While Ollie concedes her point he maintains he did the right thing stopping her from killing Ruve and nearly ruining Laurel's reputation.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: The recruits, after finding out about Oliver's past.
  • Internal Reveal: Felicity tells her boyfriend that she works for the Green Arrow. He's surprisingly cool with it.
    • The recruits learn about the List and that Oliver was also the Hood/Arrow.
  • It's Personal: Prometheus' feud with Green Arrow comes from the Arrow's actions in Season One - mainly the List.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Things were already dark at the beginning of the Season, however things get darker when Prometheus takes the center stage as the main villain. He also brings a sort of darkness with him that the previous main villains never had.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: The recruits chaffe under this, and Oliver concedes their point.
  • Mythology Gag: Green Arrow and the DA meeting at the crime scene are a lot like Batman and Gordon's meetings.
  • Neck Snap: How Kovar kills the Bratva officer helping Oliver on his mission.
  • Oh, Crap!: Felicity reveals Prometheus' stars are made up of the various arrowheads Ollie's used over the years. Meaning he/she is a police officer, or at least has access (legitimate or not) to police records and evidence.
    • This is Evelyn's response after shutting off her comlink during a mission to protect potential targets, and instantly finding herself face to face with Prometheus.
  • Running Gag: People referring to Susan as Oliver's girlfriend, much to his frustration.
  • Serial Killer: How the recruits describe Oliver; and nobody argues the point.
  • She's Not My Girlfriend: Oliver got annoyed when Thea calls Susan Williams his girlfriend.
  • Strong as They Need to Be: Prometheus, the same guy who beat the shit out of Tobias Church and killed at least a dozen cops in seconds actually gets hurt by Evelyn and has to put some effort into defeating her. This is justified later in the season.
  • Title Drop: Done in an insane way; Prometheus set up gizmo where the title is flaming as a threat to Green Arrow.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Billy Mahone is glad to hear Felicity confides to him about working for the Green Arrow despite stealing police evidence earlier.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The recruits are not happy that Oliver's been keeping secrets, Evelyn is especially enraged at the revelation that Oliver was once the infamous Hood. She eventually comes around.
  • What Measure Is a Mook?: Red Shirt version. When Prometheus' victims are listed, the dozen plus cops slaughtered last episode go unmentioned. Justified, since it's meant to be a list of the people that Prometheus specifically targeted, not the ones who were caught in the crossfire.
  • Wham Shot: Quentin wakes up from a drunken stupor with a gash on his arm (in the same spot Evelyn slashed Prometheus), and he finds one of Prometheus's throwing stars.
