Ridiculous Counter-Request: Slappy does this to herself as she talks about reluctantly coaching Skippy's soccer team at the beginning of the episode. She says she'd like to say how happy she is to take up the role of their coach, then she follows it up with "I'd also like to be stuck on a deserted island with Morey Amsterdam, but I'm not."
Running Gag: Skippy getting hit in the face by the ball, which causes him to cry and provide a Non Sequitur, *Thud*.
Shout-Out: Slappy tells Skippy's team that she had to sacrifice a Ricki Lake episode just to coach them.

Here We Go Again!: Katie's Mom calls this trope by its name when Katie goes into one of her violent outbursts.
Karma Houdini: As usual, Katie receives no comeuppance for destroying her parents' house with her violent outbursts.
Male Gaze: Katie Ka-Boom wears a midriff bearing shirt that shows off her belly button. Her family all notice it and have different reactions to it, especially her little brother who constantly keeps singing, "I see Katie's belly button! I see Katie's belly button!". It annoys her so much, especially when her DAD mentions her belly button. She becomes enraged and turns to a green monster with an even bigger and MORE hideous belly button!

No Celebrities Were Harmed: The computer Al turns out to be then Vice-President Al Gore.
Al Gore: I have the utmost confidence in this administration.
Dot: Now there's a space oddity.
That's All, Folks!: At the end, Yakko imitates Porky and says, "Eh, th-th-th-that's Al, folks!"
Uranus Is Showing: Al-5000 tells the Warners to go back to sleep until they get closer to Pluto.
Yakko: If I sleep anymore, I'll be closer to Goofy.
Wakko: Just as long as we don't get close to Uranus.
Dot: I thought we discussed cutting that line!
Yakko: We did.
Wakko: My fault.
Yakko: Try showing up for rehearsal.
Dot: [to audience] He got lost on Magnolia.
Whole-Plot Reference: To 2001: A Space Odyssey, as were the segment bumpers for the episode (hence the title).

Gory Discretion Shot: Yakko, Wakko, and Dot are lectured about the content of their cartoons by a pair of overbearing censors while Attila the Hun is searching for the Warners with the intent of causing them serious harm. By the time Attila finally catches up with the Warners, he instead starts attacking the censors. None of Attila's attacks are seen on-screen, but it is made apparent the censors didn't survive the encounter because Yakko remarks how the censors came in handy after all.
Nap-Inducing Speak: Yakko, Wakko, and Dot are so bored to death by a preschool show that they all fall asleep together◊ (rather adorably).
No Celebrities Were Harmed: The security guard is patterned after Don Knotts, who happens to be Wakko's idol.
Shout-Out: The "wholesome" show the Warners are treated to is a parody of The Smurfs.
Think of the Censors!: What kickstarts this short is two censors interrupting the Warners violently torturing Atilla the Hun, and being against all of it.
