Recap / Andromeda S1E17 "Fear and Loathing in the Milky Way"

Go To

Gerentex returns and kidnaps Harper and Trance, forcing them to accompany him to acquire an old artifact.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Trance convinces Harper and Gerentex to put their guns down by pointing out that she can kill them both and then play "cute girl" to convince Dylan that it wasn't her fault.
Trance Gemini: Oh, Dylan, it was so horrible. They just they killed each other right in front of me. And I tried to stop them, really I tried, but I couldn't.
Gerentex: By the sacred lake, she's right. I can just see that High Guard fossil now, hugging her and saying "Trance, it'll be okay" while we lay here dead.
Tracen Gemini: Drop your guns now! Or in a few days, Rev Bem's going to find me on the Obs Deck and counsel me on my tragic loss.
  • Hit So Hard, the Calendar Felt It: Unlike other episodes, which open with a quote dated from the Commonwealth calendar, this episode opens with a disclaimer from a cola ad dated 291 AFC (After the Fall of the Commonwealth).
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Harper and Gerentex. See above.
    Harper: Drop our guns?
    Gerentex: Indubitably.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Trace inadvertently helps their kidnapper by giving up too much information.
Gerentex: I don't understand. Why am I the only one who attracts bullets?
Trance Gemini: Oh, that's our High Guard ECM generators. They mess up smart bullets really bad.
Seamus Harper: Trance! Are you out of your freaking mind?
  • Pet the Dog: Trance gives Gerentex their Anesterian Tundra flowers, the most efficient oxygen producers ever discovered. He leaves in the hope that he can get the plants to breed and thus repay his debts.
  • Shout-Out: To Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
    Gerentex: Aren't you dead?
    Trance: ...I got better.
  • Survivor Guilt: Rommie tells Beka that Dylan is suffering from this, as what would have been the end of his tour aboard Andromeda is nearly here.
