Recap / American Dad S 9 E 12 Naked To The Limit One More Time

Go To

Roger convinces Jeff that he's really an imaginary friend so that he can walk around the house naked.

Tropes:

  • Delayed Reaction: After Klaus speaks to Roger, it takes half a minute for Jeff to realize that everyone else can see Roger and that he's not imaginary.
  • Downer Ending: Roger calls his people to pick him up, only to put Jeff into the transport beam and the mothership speeds off.
  • Kick the Dog: Roger asks Jeff to come to him for a hug, but this was just a trap so he can throw him in the UFO to take him into space, leaving Hayley completely devastated.
  • Mood Whiplash: Right after it seems like Roger is giving everyone a tearful farewell, complete with a montage of his funniest moments, he asks Jeff to give him a hug, only to throw him in the spaceship.
  • Protagonist-Centered Morality: Trapped in a burning donut shop with dozens of fat people, Steve is the only one small enough to get out and call for help. But when he calls 911, he reflects that he's no longer insecure about not having a big butt, leaving all the people in the shop to burn to death.
  • Put on a Bus: Jeff is thrown onto Roger's mothership.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The story starts as one where Roger attempts to show Stan the easy way out is the best way. It is almost completely forgotten when Roger chooses to leave to save the family... until the literal last moments of the episode, when Roger throws Jeff into the spaceship. Stan is immediately convinced and the family walks away as Hayley, presumably sharing the audience reaction, is in utter bewilderment as to what just happened.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Jeff explains his "falling out" with his previous imaginary friend named Philip to Roger, which involves him splashing paint on a beefy man getting out of a club, angering him in the process, and expecting his imaginary friend to take the wheel. Needless to say, when Philip obviously doesn't take the wheel, and Jeff gets snapped in half, and is very lucky to have even survived.
  • Weight Woe: In an inversion, Steve becomes obsessed with not having a big butt and tries to find ways to gain weight.
  • Wham Episode: One of the few episodes to have long-lasting ramifications. Jeff is abducted by Roger's people.
