After a walrus race accident, Gunther has strange visions.

Tropes:

  • Body Horror: Gunther's brain is green, glittery, and vibrates with power.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Lumpy Space Princess apparently thinks the best way to get a disgruntled walrus to do what she wants is to hit it with a stick. It doesn't work.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Turns out Hunson's comment about Gunter being the most evil thing he's encountered way back in "It Came from the Nightosphere" was true, and here it becomes a plot point.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The penguins have a party like the one in "Hoots" (no tripping this time).
    • Gunther's kitten shows up again.
    • Ice King calmly poking Gunther's brains back into his skull to "Graybles 1000+" where he casually fixes his broken leg by snapping it back into place.
  • Disguised Horror Story: The first half of the episode is silly penguin antics. The second half is a Cosmic Horror Story.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Orgalorg cameod in "Gold Stars" long before we know who he is.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Orgalorg was this before he became Gunther.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Ice King either doesn't seem to notice that the penguins put a very obvious sleeping gas grenade in his cheesecake, or is just pretending not to notice to mess with them.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: One of the mysterious symbols that appears when Gunther/Orgalorg powers up is just the phrase "OR SOMETHING" written vertically.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Any introspection that Lumpy Space Princess had in the previous episode that she's a terrible person was promptly forgotten when she got invited to the penguins' party.
  • Info Dump: The alien Elders exposit about Orgalorg's history to their kids and grandkids.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Ice King isn't shocked at all to see Gunther's brains spilling out.
  • The Mirror Shows Your True Self: The episode ends with Gunther looking into a mirror and seeing his reflection turn into Orgalorg.
  • Monochrome Past: The colors of Gunther's memories of Walking the Earth are muted.
  • Mood Whiplash: First half, Ice King eating cheesecake really slowly and light-hearted penguin shenanigans. Second half, Gunther's brain spilling out and the revelation that Gunther is an eldritch space god that once ruled the solar system, before crashing on Earth and losing his memory... but is beginning to regain it again.
  • Obvious Trap: The sleeping gas grenade planted in the middle of the cheesecake.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: A girl penguin whips out a cell phone and we briefly cut to the phone's screen to see that she is texting LSP to let her know there is a party at the Ice King's castle. She instantly respond's "I'm there". Indeed, we cut back to the original scene and LSP is in a crowd behind her.
  • Painting the Medium: After Gunther gets injured everything is tinted yellow (Orgalorg's color) and the normally white/blue ice is multicolored.
  • The Reveal: Gunther is revealed to be an ancient god named Orgalorg and is slowly regaining his memories.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: According to this episode, the Orgalorg penguin had been going by Gunter long before the Ice King named him.
  • Splash of Color: Variation: Gunther's memories have a splash of motion (spinning wheels or moving clouds).
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: One of the penguins has a pink bow and eyelashes.
  • Time Abyss: Orgalorg already was the equivalent of an Elder God, but his earthly penguin incarnation has been around since prehistorical times.
  • Walking the Earth: A series of images reveal Gunther spent thousands of years traveling the world.
