A shadowy figure named Peace Master targets the Candy Kingdom elite.

Tropes:

  • Action Dad: Peace Master can go toe-to-toe with Peppermint Butler and has three children to take care of.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This is Peppermint Butler's time to shine.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Peppermint Butler beats Peace Master and his cover remains intact.
  • Bowdlerise: Cartoon Network UK airings cut out Peace Master pulling his pants down and Peppermint Butler making him eat dirt, so in that version Peppermint Butler says he took it too far after making Peace Master act like a chicken.
  • Brick Joke: At the end of the episode, Peppermint Butler finally gets Princess Bubblegum the chamomile tea she asked for.
  • Call-Back: Princess Bubblegum is embarrassed when Colonel Candy Corn asks what happened to the Rattleballs robots.
  • Chekhov's Gun: When Peace Master has Peppermint Butler on the edge of defeat, Kenneth the donut guy from the beginning of the episode uses his "dimension disruptor" to free him.
  • Dramatic Irony: Princess Bubblegum thinks she's "the evil one" that Peace Master wants to destroy.
  • Everyone Has Standards: With his children hostage, Peppermint Butler makes Peace Master do humiliating things, but he stops making him eat dirt because he thinks he took it a little too far there.
  • Forced to Watch: Peace Master's fate at the hands of Peppermint Butler. His children are held hostage by his enemy and he can do nothing but watch as two of his kin are turned into monsters. The sight of this reduces him to tears.
  • Forced Transformation: Peppermint Butler tortures Peace Master by turning two of his kids into monsters. The kids however, are pretty happy with their new forms and are still adorable.
  • Freaky Is Cool: Peace Master's children are way less concerned about being turned into monsters than their father is, and in fact they seem to enjoy their new forms.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Peppermint Butler defeats Peace Master, but Princess Bubblegum's security cameras weren't focused on the fight and she's still on the alert by the end of the episode.
  • Hero Antagonist: By all accounts, Peace Master is the much more heroic character opposing a Dark Wizard, only for his children to be kidnapped and two of them turned into monsters. However, because the Dark Wizard is Peppermint Butler and Princess Bubblegum's mistaken belief Peace Master is after her, he's cast as the antagonist and is thoroughly humiliated by Peppermint Butler.
  • Knight Templar Parent: Peace Master is definitely this; he's convinced the reason his children are rowdy and disobedient is because Peppermint Butler put some kind of spell on them, and not that they're rebelling against his strict parenting style.
  • Pretentious Latin Motto: The Vertias Brigade has the motto Lux in tenebris, or "Light in the darkness".
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Despite the grievances with Princess Bubblegum's reign, the various Candy People are shown to have no issue with Peppermint Butler, hence their belief Peace Master is mistaken in calling him the "Dark One", even after he appears out of nowhere from their perspective and tries to shank Peace Master with a hidden dagger.
  • Worrying for the Wrong Reason: Peace Master's hatred towards Peppermint Butler originates from a belief that he put a curse on his family. He is completely baseless in his accusations, but by the end of the episode Peppermint Butler DOES turn his kids into demons, proving that Peace Master may have been right to fear him.
  • You, Get Me Coffee: When the Peace Master discovers her surveillance system, Princess Bubblegum starts barking orders to the Banana Guards, then tells Peppermint Butler "Make me some chamomile tea so I don't stress out!"
