Princess Bubblegum sends Finn and Jake to investigate a message of distress from the Earls of Lemongrab.

Tropes

  • Abusive Parents: The Lemongrabs prefer to make more children than to raise them or feed them.
  • Body Horror: Most of the Lemon Children are grotesque, deformed creatures, including some that appear to be little more than sentient piles of goo. The Lemongrabs love them all the same, though, and are compelled to create more of them.
    • For instance, one of the Lemon Children has a head that peels off to reveal a wide-eyed bald face, all while screeching.
    • There are huge organs scattered all over the Lemon Castle that turn out to belong to Lemonjon, a giant, lemon humanoid with two noses.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: While Bubblegum is erasing the Lemongrabs' memories of the candy-life formula, you can see various strange sentences representing Lemongrab's thoughts and memories written on his brain.
  • Gentle Giant: After having his heart awakened to empathy, Lemonjon decides to sacrifice himself in order to not bring harm to the Candy People and his family.
  • Grotesque Gallery: The Lemon Children qualify as this due to their hideous mutations.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Lemonjon, after learning about empathy, decides to sacrifice himself in order to not bring suffering to the Candy People or his family, exploding into lemon-shaped pieces of candy.
  • I Warned You: The Lemongrabs yell this, though they can't be taken seriously here due to their lack of personal responsibility or common sense.
  • Lethally Stupid: The real reason Castle Lemongrab is in trouble is because the Earls won't stop making Lemon Children out of their food, even when they're all already starving.
  • Living Structure Monster: Lemonjon.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: One of the Lemon Children has multiple limbs.
  • Multiple Head Case: One of the Lemon Children has two shaking heads.
  • Never My Fault: As the title suggests, the Lemongrabs put all the blame on Princess Bubblegum, Finn, and Jake.
  • Nothing but Skin and Bones: Both Lemongrabs have ended up like this by bringing their food to life instead of eating it.
  • Our Giants Are Bigger: Lemonjon turns out to be a gigantic Lemon Child.
  • Punny Name: Lemonjon is a pun on "donjon", an archaic technical name for the central keep of a castle.
  • Sequel Episode: This is one for "You Made Me!".
  • Shout-Out: The sequence of the Lemon Child whose face peels contains visual references to the sequence in which Bennings is revealed to have been copied by the Thing in The Thing.
  • Take a Third Option: Following Lemonjon finding empathy, he realizes the quandary of whether to attack the Candy Kingdom (at the expense of its inhabitants) or not to attack (at the expense of his own people). He dissolves himself into pieces of lemon candy in order to feed his inhabitants.
  • Title Drop: This.
Lemongrab: "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! ALL YOUR FAULT!"
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Thanks to Jake beating on his heart, Lemonjon develops empathy, which his siblings and fathers lack.
  • Too Many Mouths: One of the Lemon Children has three mouths on its face.
