Finn, Jake and Marceline are trapped in an underground cavern with no red in sight. If Marceline doesn't feed, like ASAP, she will turn into a vampiric beast and suck out all of Jake's blood! So, Finn heads off to explore the cave and find something red to satiate her until they can be rescued. But time is running out!

Tropes

  • Badass Boast: Surprisingly, Bubblegum drops a rather laid-back one after getting the Spoon of Prosperity:
Princess Bubblegum: Peeps will never starve in my Eternal Empire.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Bubblegum arrives just as Marceline is about to eat Finn and Jake's blood.
  • Call-Back:
    • Remember how Marceline would resort to blood if not presented with something red?
    • In "What Was Missing", Marceline threatened to "suck the red from [PB's] pretty pink face". Here she does so.
  • Colorblind Confusion: Finn finds a giant ruby, which people keep telling him is an emerald. When he brings it to Jake, the show initially acts like it's going to go with the old "dogs are colorblind" joke... except Finn describes the ruby as dark grey. We then see the scene from Jake's perspective, where the "ruby" is in fact an emerald. This is how Finn learns he's red-green colorblind.
  • I'm a Humanitarian:
    • Marceline comes close to eating Finn and Jake.
    • Jake was getting the idea to eat Marceline before Finn arrived just in time.
  • I Regret Nothing: Jake yells "No regrets!" when Marceline drops him.
  • Kind Restraints: Marceline suggests that Jake tie her up, although she admits that it wouldn't really help.
  • Late to the Tragedy: Finn and Jake come across the results of some kind of magical catastrophe in the underground city.
  • Looks Like Orlok: Marceline ends up like this in "feral" mode.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jake becoming a drill to escape from the quicksand causes a cave-in that traps him, Finn, and Marceline. He also mistook Marceline's red erasers for candy and ate them, causing her to get hungry enough to go into a vampiric frenzy.
  • Nightmare Face: Marceline gets more and more monstrous and scary-looking as her hunger grows.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • How the Sand People got turned into sand and just what Paris, the bearded corpse, got up to.
    • Why the horned turtle thing was banished from his underground homeland.
  • Offscreen Villainy: Paris, the bearded corpse, turned the Sand People to petrified corpses, though he intended to revive them.
  • Our Monsters Are Different: Paris's ally, a horned turtle thing with a third eye.
  • Our Monsters Are Weird: The monster that allied with Paris has a turtle shell, a red third eye and horned forehead.
  • Quicksand Sucks: Jake getting stuck in quicksand starts all the problems.
  • Subterranean Sanity Failure: A combination of hunger and being trapped by a cave-in causes Marceline and Jake to both go crazy.
  • Suddenly Obvious Fakery: Scenes from Finn's perspective show a giant red ruby, which someone else insists is an emerald. Once Finn brings it back to Jake, we see it as green from his perspective; turns out Finn is red-green colour-blind.
